"I've got a bandage on now"
Nikita Kanda shared an emotional message about an injury she sustained ahead of Movie Week on BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing.
She ended up being voted out alongside her dance partner Gorka Marquez.
Appearing on Strictly It Takes Two, Nikita admitted she was feeling emotional after exiting the competition earlier than she would have liked to.
The BBC Asian Network presenter said: “I’m really sad, I feel quite emotional.
“It’s been an emotional and fun journey, but I’m so sad that our time got cut short.
“I had so much fun [dancing to Clueless] it’s so iconic. I’m a 90s baby so I really took the role [of Cher] on. Gorka helped me each week with my confidence.”
Nikita then revealed that she suffered an injury before they performed the Jive.
She explained: “I even hurt my foot the day before but we powered through.
“I’ve got a bandage on now so it’s not very glamorous underneath all the sparkle!”
In a lengthy message on Instagram, Nikita shared some of her best moments from the show and wrote:
“What a whirlwind. Processing the end of my time on Strictly. It’s so hard to put into words. I’ve had the most magical time.
“I want to say thank you for all the support and messages. It’s been a super fun but emotional rollercoaster.
“I’m so gutted to be out, I feel like my journey ended early but I’ve made friends and memories for life. I love every single one of the Strictly fam. Will miss hanging out every week.
“It was a dream come true to be part of an iconic show that I’ve grown up watching especially as a British Asian it’s so important to me to represent.
“Dancing is so out of my comfort zone and I know I gave it my all especially as I’ve never danced in my life. I tried my absolute hardest and that’s all we can ever do.
“I went out there on Saturday with an injured foot because that’s how much I wanted to keep going. I didn’t want to give up. I always wanted to give it 100%.”
Thanking her dance partner, Nikita Kanda continued:
“@gorka_marquez I honestly don’t know what I would have done without you.
“You were the best dance partner and friend I could have asked for, now forever part of my family.”
“The most real and genuine person I’ve met. You’ve taught me so much not just in dance but in life too. I appreciate you more than you know and all the laughs were just incredible.
“All the people that work on the show, runners, hair and makeup, wardrobe, dancers, choreographers, production are just amazing!
“The best of the best and I feel so lucky to have worked with you all.”
Gorka replied: “I am so proud of you and grateful to get to dance with you!
“Thank you for all the memories, laughs that we share! I’ll remember forever.”
Nikita Kanda and Gorka Marquez found themselves in the bottom two alongside Zara McDermott and Graziano Di Prima.
The judge voted unanimously to save the latter for showing more “technique”.
Visibly saddened, Nikita told Tess Daly:
“I don’t want to leave yet, I feel like I’ve let him down.
“I’ve had the best time and I love all my Strictly family, I’m going to miss you all. This has been a dream come true, I’m so grateful.”
