“I’ve always believed in maintaining dignity and grace."
Actress and choreographer Dhanashree Verma opened up on facing trolling following her divorce from Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal.
The couple, who met online during the Covid pandemic, married in December 2020.
On February 5, 2025, they filed for divorce by mutual consent.
Since then, Dhanashree has faced criticism online. She had remained silent until now.
Dhanashree dismissed the negative commentary and said she would not react to public speculation.
She said the stories being shared were “far from the truth” and added that her silence came from self-awareness.
Dhanashree said: “I’ve always believed in maintaining dignity and grace.
“Putting others down has never been my way, and it never helps anyone rise in life.”
She explained that she prefers to focus on her own growth:
“Self-growth, self-love, and discipline have always guided me.”
Despite online criticism, she insisted that her work remains her priority and is confident that “her truth will eventually speak for themselves”.
On the day of her divorce, Dhanashree Verma released the music video, ‘Dekha Ji Dekha Maine‘.
The song portrayed Dhanashree as a woman facing domestic violence and infidelity in her marriage.
One lyric stated: “Dekha ji dekha maine, apno ka rona dekha. Gairon ke bistar pe, apno ka sona dekha (I saw my own people crying. I saw my own sharing a bed with others).”
Another was: “Dil tera bacha hai, nibhana bhool jata hai. Naya khilauna dekh ke, purana bhool jata hai (Your heart is so naive that it forgets to stay loyal. The moment it finds a new toy, it forgets about the old one).”
Performed by Jyoti Nooran and composed by Jaani, the track’s lyrics and visuals painted a stark picture of betrayal, possibly highlighting what Dhanashree experienced during her marriage.
She recently featured in the song ‘Ting Ling Sajna’ from Bhool Chuk Maaf, starring Rajkummar Rao.
She will also make her Telugu film debut in Akasam Daati Vastaava.
Looking ahead, Dhanashree said she wants to focus on bigger and better projects. When asked about finding love again, she said it was not off the table, but not her current focus.
She added: “When it comes to love, you can’t plan these things… And if something good is written in my destiny, then why not — who doesn’t want love in life?”
