“Extremely excited to announce. I liked it, so I put a ring on it.”

Usman Khawaja is having a good year.

Since making his T20 debut for Australia at the start of 2016, he has shown exceptional form for domestic team Sydney Thunder in the 2015/16 season.

To cap it off, the 29 year-old is set to wed Rachel McLellan after she accepted his proposal on a trip to New York.

The Pakistani-born Australian cricketer has seemingly turned his career around, after being suspended and eventually dropped from the Australian team in 2013.

His poor run continued in 2015 after an extended injury spell.

Since his return, the batsman has played some of his best cricket ever, including a score of 98 against the West Indies in June.

Taking to social media, Khawaja expresses in an Instagram post:

Brunette bombshell McLellan is also excited to take to Instagram:

“New York was even better than I expected, Uzzy asked me to marry him and of course I said yes! Can’t wait to spend my life with this guy @usman_khawajy”

Quick well-wishers include Canberra Raiders rugby star Sam Williams, who tweets ‘congrats mate’ and team mate David Warner with a ‘Well done brother’.

Khawaja made headlines on the field earlier this year for very different reasons.

He welcomed debutant Adam Zampna to the Aussie team with an extended caress of the bottom during the national anthem.

When the photos surfaced, he took to Twitter to play down the prank suggesting he ‘didn’t realise there were cameras filming from behind’ and that it was ‘all consensual’.

Khawaja will be playing for Australia in their upcoming 3-match series against Sri Lanka from the July 26 – August 13.

This has followed an unsuccessful first season in the Indian Premier League with MS Dhoni’s newcomers, Rising Pune Supergiants.
