“It’s an intensely emotional story"
Chorki has officially announced the release date for its highly anticipated web film, Amalnama, directed by Raihan Rafi.
The film, set to premiere on March 13, 2025, delves into hard-hitting social realities, addressing themes of crossfire, extrajudicial killings, and disappearances.
The poster for Amalnama subtly hinted at these themes.
It depicts imagery of gunfights and state violence in the background.
The trailer provides a deeper look into the film’s tense atmosphere.
Director Raihan Rafi revealed that the inspiration for Amalnama came from a real-life incident that deeply moved him.
He said: “Whenever an incident disturbs me, I try to dig deeper into it.
“The incident that inspired this film—though I can’t reveal which one yet—devastated me.
“It’s an intensely emotional story, and I found myself close to tears while working on it.”
Rafi has always used his films as a form of protest, questioning societal norms and challenging the system.
He emphasised that while Amalnama is inspired by real events, it remains a work of fiction that captures the raw emotions of those affected.
He stated: “Similar incidents have occurred, and audiences will recognise them.
“Even the perpetrators should feel unsettled and understand the gravity of their actions.”
He further added that beyond the broader social narrative, this is also “a father’s story”.
The film features an ensemble cast with Zahid Hasan playing police officer Imran Zaman while Sarika Sabrin portrays his wife.
Tama Mirza takes on the role of Parveen, a desperate woman fighting to get her husband back.
Kamruzzaman Kamu plays her husband, completing the second married couple in the story.
The cast also includes Gazi Rakayet, Gitashree Chowdhury, Hashnat Ripon, Jannatul Mawa Jhilick, AK Azad Setu, and Inaya Arya.
Tama Mirza spoke about the depth of her character, saying:
“Once I understood my character, I couldn’t detach myself from that world.
“It felt like everything was unfolding right before my eyes.
“It portrayed an intensely realistic character, and the tension will surely affect the audience.”
In the trailer, she is seen running frantically, embodying a woman consumed by fear and desperation.
Amalnama‘s screenplay was co-written by Raihan Rafi and SM Nazrul Islam, based on Rafi’s original story.
With its intense themes, emotional depth, and a cast delivering powerful performances, Amalnama is set to leave a lasting impact.
Audiences eagerly await its premiere on Chorki, expecting a film that not only tells a compelling story but also sparks important conversations.
