"He had been wanted for 12 years."

A supporting actor who worked alongside some of Bollywood’s biggest stars has been arrested in a shocking turn of events.

The Ahmedabad Crime Branch arrested 53-year-old Hemant Modi alias Nagindas Parshottamdas Modi Vaishnav, near Gheekanta Metro Station.

What followed the arrest left the entertainment industry and the public completely stunned and struggling to process the revelation.

The actor, who had built a visible career in Hindi and Gujarati films, turned out to be a convicted murderer on the run.

He had been absconding for 12 years after jumping parole while serving a life sentence connected to a 2005 murder case.

The murder took place in the Naroda area of Ahmedabad and led to charges filed under multiple serious sections of the IPC.

A case was registered under Sections 302, 324, 147, 148, 149 and 120(B) of the IPC along with Section 135(1) of the BP Act.

Hemant remained in jail until 2014, after which he jumped parole and disappeared entirely from the authorities’ reach.

He then changed his name and quietly entered the film industry, building what police described as a highly active and visible career.

Crime Branch police inspector PM Dhakhra confirmed the details of the arrest to the media. He said:

“Yesterday, Ahmedabad Crime Branch arrested an accused named Hemant Nagindas Modi, who had been on the run for 12 years after jumping parole.

“He was convicted in a murder case and remained in jail until 2014, after which he jumped parole.”

“He had been wanted for 12 years. During this period, the accused played various roles in the film industry and was also quite active on social media.

“Many of his web series were also released.”

The arrest was made after the crime branch received a specific tip-off confirming that Hemant had arrived back in Ahmedabad.

During his 12 years as a fugitive, he worked consistently across Hindi, Gujarati, web series, television shows and stage plays.

His film credits are particularly striking given that they include some of the most high-profile Bollywood productions in recent years.

Hemant appeared in Thugs of Hindostan, the big-budget action adventure starring Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif and Amitabh Bachchan.

He also had a role in Jayeshbhai Jordaar, the Ranveer Singh and Shalini Pandey-starrer that gained significant public attention.

His credits further include Metro In Dino, starring Sara Ali Khan and Aditya Roy Kapur in lead roles throughout the film.

He also appeared in the Malayalam blockbuster L2 Empuraan, starring Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran in central and powerful roles.

Perhaps most remarkably, his upcoming work includes Lahore 1947, the highly anticipated film starring Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta.

On the television front, Hemant had appeared in popular shows including Wagle Ki Duniya and Mere Sai.

He maintained a social media presence throughout his years as a fugitive, further adding to the shock surrounding the arrest.

The fact that he worked so openly and consistently across multiple platforms makes the case all the more extraordinary.

Following the arrest, Hemant Modi has been sent to Mehsana Jail, where he will serve the remainder of his life sentence.
