"Usman took advantage of a vulnerable teenage girl"

Muhammed Usman, of Birmingham, was jailed for 12 years for engaging in sexual activity with a vulnerable teenage girl.

The 39-year-old’s offending came to light on June 22, 2024, when West Midlands Police received a phone call to say he had been caught abusing a vulnerable teenage girl.

His phone was seized and during analysis, police found videos he had taken of the abuse.

The abuse identified both Usman and his victim.

Usman pleaded guilty to seven charges of sexual activity with a female with a mental health disorder and one charge of possessing indecent images of children.

At Birmingham Crown Court, Usman was sentenced to 12 years in prison plus five years extended on licence.

As well as his jail sentence, Usman was placed on the sex offenders register and handed a restraining order for life.

Hirah Khan, from West Midlands Police’s Adult Complex Investigation team, said:

“Usman took advantage of a vulnerable teenage girl for his own sexual gratification.

“We are pleased with the sentence which sends out a clear message that people who behave in this depraved way will be convicted and will spend many years behind bars.

“We are thankful to the survivor of his abuse and her family who helped us as we investigated right up to its successful conclusion.

“It is important to note that survivors of sexual abuse are protected by law and have life-long anonymity.”

“For advice and support go to rape, sexual assault and other sexual offences.”

Muhammed Usman’s sentence comes after three members of a Yorkshire grooming gang were sentenced for plying two vulnerable girls with drugs and alcohol and passing them between numerous men for sex.

Ibrar Hussain, Imtiaz Ahmed and Fayaz Ahmed were the latest of eight defendants who have been jailed regarding the abuse of the two girls.

Judge Ahmed Nadim said the girls were plied with drugs and alcohol as they were passed between numerous men, “virtually all of whom were of Asian heritage”, in the town in the 1990s, when they were in their early teens.

The girls each had “unhappy home lives” and one was bullied in school.

Judge Nadim said this left them “vulnerable to sexual exploitation” and the “lure of older men that other girls wanted to be with”.
