“She was saying she was fine. Because we are best friends I know she was not fine.”
Bidhya Sagar Das, the 33-year old, was charged with murder, after killing his one-year-old son, Gabriel.
After brutally assaulting his son with a hammer, as well as his daughter, who has been identified as Maria, Police found the two with critical injuries.
Although admitted to the hospital, Gabriel did not make it. His post-mortem examination will take place on Tuesday 21st March 2017. Meanwhile, his sister Maria, also aged one, remains in a critical condition. Bidhya Sagar Das is to appear in Thames Magistrates Court.
Interviewed by the BBC, a woman who lives opposite says: “I opened the window and I asked her, ‘Can I help you, can I call the police for you?’ She said, ‘My kids’.”
The witness further added that she heard a woman shouting for help on the street. And then later saw two children being carried out of the complex.
This took place outside Bidhya Sagar Das’s apartment at 11:10 pm on Saturday 18th March 2017.
Bidhya’s partner, Miss Datcu, had spoken to a friend before the incident. Her friend told the Daily Mail: “She was saying she was fine. Because we are best friends I know she was not fine. I said, ‘I’m going to call you back,’ and I didn’t call her back.”
Another neighbour states: “Miss Datcu was taking a shower at the time of the attack. When a neighbour went into the room the boy was already dying. The boy literally died in the neighbour’s arms.”
This attack has come as a surprise to the neighbourhood and colleagues, who were alerted by screams. Mihai Manea, who worked with Bidhya Sagar, also expressed his surprise to the Daily Mail:
“They seemed a normal family. Das told me he had a few kids, seemed really happy. He said they were eventually going to get married. He quit two days ago, I thought he probably had something better.”
Reports claim that the charged murderer remained in the apartment immediately after the attack. But, had fled the apartment before the ambulance and police had arrived. This then launched a manhunt by the Police.
Eventually, he was found and charged with murder.
Bidhya Sagar Das is due to appear in custody at Thames Magistrates Court.
