12 year-old Boy jailed for Raping 3 year-old Girl in India

"As the boy is a minor, we cannot interrogate him beyond a point."

Police jailed a 12 year-old boy after he allegedly raped a 3 year-old girl after luring her away from her home. The incident supposedly took place on Saturday 8th April 2017, in the Sambhal area of Chandausi.

Police say that the 12 year-old boy took the girl away from her home, by promising to give her buttermilk. However, he reportedly raped the 3 year-old. The young girl screamed during the ordeal, which neighbours could hear.

Neighbours promptly rushed to the scene and saved the 3 year-old. Reports say that they brought the 12 year-old boy to a police station. Meanwhile, neighbours also took the girl to a nearby hospital.

The police have filed a case against the boy under the Protection of Children from Sexual Acts Offence (POCSO) Act. Reports also say that police has taken the boy to jail. Chandausi police station officer, Surendra Singh Yadav, explained more on the situation.

He said: “The accused is an unletterd 12-year-old. His parents are labourers while he sits idle all day long. As the boy is a minor, we cannot interrogate him beyond a point. But he may have fallen into bad company.”

Police also revealed how neighbours had called Dial 100 to report the alleged rape.

This marks the second incident of a sexual assault on a child in the area. Earlier on 5th March 2017, reports say another child had been sexually assaulted in Chandausi. They say a man had allegedly raped the minor.

Nearby villagers spotted the crime taking place and caught the man. Supposedly in his forties, he too was handed to police.

With two incidents taking place in a short space of time, it highlights a growing problem with sexual assault. And now with the accused in this case being of a young age, it shows police need to take more action to prevent these crimes.
