Behkaway' faces Backlash for 'Inappropriate' Scenes f

“This is a very vulgar drama"

The Geo TV drama Behkaway has come under intense public scrutiny for scenes that were deemed controversial.

Episode 25 caused particular controversy.

The series, written by Samra Bukhari and directed by Asad Jabal, has drawn criticism for what viewers are calling regressive storytelling.

The most recent controversy centres around a disturbing scene involving an underage girl.

A male character, uncle to the daughter of Zeenat and Zubair, is shown picking up the young girl from school.

He tried to harass her before taking her to an ice cream shop.

He then proceeded to eat his ice cream in a suggestive manner, making the schoolgirl uncomfortable.

Social media users reacted swiftly and harshly, calling the content “vulgar” and damaging to societal values.

One comment read: “This is a very vulgar drama; it is sending a very bad message.”

Another viewer posted: “The moral values of our society are continuously declining, and they are airing such dramas to give people these ideas.”

A third asked if it was a “porn drama”.

The backlash has intensified calls for the show to be banned or reported to regulatory authorities.

Some users believe that Behkaway crosses a line in its portrayal of abuse and harassment.

This is particularly because it airs during a primetime slot when families may be watching.

The series stars Yashma Gill, Hiba Ali, Yasir Nawaz, Osama Tahir, Nayyar Ejaz, and Ayesha Gul.

Behkaway was expected to attract attention due to its high-profile cast.

But instead of praise, it has been met with mounting disapproval for its melodramatic tone and problematic themes.

The central plot focuses on Zubair, a toxic middle-aged man who mistreats his wife Zeenat and causes turmoil through infidelity and verbal abuse.

Zeenat is shown constantly in tears, unable to take a stand or escape her circumstances.

Viewers have condemned this portrayal, saying it perpetuates harmful stereotypes of weak, submissive women.

Social media platforms are flooded with critical commentary, with one user questioning:

“Why are they showing women so weak?”

Another noted: “Zeenat has done nothing but cry since the first episode.”

Many believe that the show fails to offer empowering narratives or realistic resolutions.

However, not all viewers have called for its removal. Some argue that while the scenes are disturbing, they shed light on taboo issues often left unspoken.

One user noted: “Although what they are showing is horrific, it carries an important message for parents.”

Netizens are now debating whether uncomfortable topics should be shown to raise awareness or avoided altogether.
