"So I can't object to you saying the C-word now"

Naga Munchetty called out her BBC Breakfast co-host live on air after he used the ‘C-word’.

The presenter and her colleague Charlie Stayt were back on screens as they hosted the October 4 episode of the morning news programme.

During a segment, they were joined by BBC’s finance guru to chat about the recent announcement that the cost of first-class stamps will rise by 30p on October 7, 2024.

Introducing the topic, Charlie said:

“We have Ben delving into this. I suppose purchasing now is one way to save.”

Ben elaborated: “That is one method to dodge the costs. It’s becoming quite pricey to post cards and letters and some businesses are starting to worry.”

Ben revealed that this is the third price hike since October 2023.

Currently, a standard first-class stamp costs £1.35 but from Monday, it will rise to £1.65.

Ben advised: “If you’re quick, you can buy a sheet of 50 first-class stamps that will be £15 cheaper than if you purchased them on Monday.

“So if you’re planning to send a lot of Christmas cards, stock up over the weekend.”

The finance expert asked: “Will you be sending fewer Christmas cards due to the price increase or perhaps you’ve stopped sending items by post?”

Naga did not hesitate to challenge Ben for bringing the festive cheer so early, saying:

“So I can’t object to you saying the C-word now can I because it’s the fourth of October?”

Ben retorted: “Absolutely not, we are well on the run-up to Christmas.”

Naga then shared her thoughts: “I think there is a joy in sending Christmas cards.”

Ben agreed: “There is a joy in receiving them.”

But he then admitted:

“But there is also a stress in sending them.”

Ben turned to ask Naga: “Do you get organised and get them all sent out?

“If you can do it in time to send them second class then it’s a great way to save money but for me, you’ll be lucky if they arrive before the new year.”

Naga quickly noted: “I’ve never had a Christmas card from you.”

Ben blushed and confessed: “I’m so bad at sending them and getting organised so it doesn’t happen. You’re not the only one.”

Naga Munchetty playfully nudged: “Try to change that will you.”

Ben conceded: “I’ll try.”
