“The PCB is reviewing the situation"

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will reschedule several PSL 2025 matches as rising tensions between India and Pakistan threaten the league’s tenth season.

The decision follows a drone incident at Rawalpindi Stadium on May 8, 2025, hours before Karachi Kings were set to face Peshawar Zalmi.

That game was postponed.

Heavy rain in Rawalpindi had already made play unlikely, but the drone incident forced PCB into immediate emergency talks.

PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi met with foreign players and team staff in Islamabad to discuss security concerns and future scheduling.

In a statement, the board said: “The PCB is reviewing the situation and will be rescheduling some of the PSL matches.

“Further updates will be provided as matters are finalised.”

It’s unclear whether matches will be shifted to different venues or dates. Rawalpindi was scheduled to host four of the eight remaining matches.

Multan has one game, while Lahore, set to host the final, has three.

All three cities were reportedly affected by drone activity, adding complications to any rearrangement plans.

Karachi, which hosted earlier games, could be reconsidered as a venue.

However, it has also experienced drone-related alerts, making Dubai an attractive option for some foreign players.

Several overseas players, especially among the English contingent, have shown concern.

Some are considering leaving the tournament. Others are waiting for further security assessments.

The Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA) remains in contact with all 15 English players involved.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said it is closely monitoring players Nahid Rana and Rishad Hossain.

They confirmed coordination with the PCB and the Bangladesh High Commission to ensure their safety.

The board stated: “The Board is working closely with both the PCB and the Bangladesh High Commission to make certain that the cricketers feel safe and secure during their stay in Pakistan.

“Furthermore, the BCB is coordinating with the relevant authorities to ensure that all arrangements are in place to facilitate the eventual departure of the players from Pakistan in a timely and secure manner.”

Cricket West Indies (CWI) also issued a statement regarding its players’ safety in both the PSL and IPL.

They are working with the West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) to manage risks.

CWI continues to receive regular updates through diplomatic, governmental, and cricketing channels.

The Association said: “The welfare of our people remains our highest priority.”

With eight matches still to be played, the PSL 2025 season now faces disruption.
