Bangladeshi actress Azmeri Haque Badhan shared a striking burkha photo on social media, addressing critics who previously mocked her.

The post came after citizens turned out in large numbers to vote, with women making a prominent appearance across polling centres nationwide.

Badhan, a vocal supporter during the July uprising, used the moment to congratulate the country while responding to online trolling.

Reflecting on the national polls, the actress wrote on Facebook:

“Proud moment for all of us. Well done, Bangladesh! What a sleepless night we spent — and what a beautiful, relieving morning this is.

“I feel grateful, accomplished, and deeply proud.”

Alongside this message, Badhan posted a side-by-side picture of herself wearing a saree and a burkha.

She explained her choice, saying: “This photo is especially for those who told me to ‘buy a burkha.’

“For the record, I’ve worn a burkha regularly in my daily life since childhood.

“To me, it’s simply another outfit — nothing more, nothing less.

“Sometimes it’s as practical as covering pajamas, an oily scalp, or simply blending into a public place. As simple as that.

“To those who tried to troll, bash, or bully — this one’s for you too.”

The actress emphasised that her post was not only a personal clarification but also a reminder to respect individual choices, particularly in the public eye.

Beyond addressing critics, Badhan’s message carried a broader national appeal.

She congratulated voters, candidates, and organisers for participating in the democratic process.

The actress also addressed those who did not succeed electorally with empathy.

“And to those who didn’t win, the experience itself is a victory. This is our country.”

Badhan highlighted the importance of national solidarity beyond political outcomes, saying:

“We must move forward together with respect and unity.

“That’s the ultimate goal. I love my country.”

Her message reflected a wider call for reconciliation following a polarising election period.

Her burkha photo sparked discussion online, with many praising her confident stance against trolling.

Social media users commended her ability to handle criticism gracefully while using the platform to educate others about personal choice.

The burkha, for Azmeri Haque Badhan, is not a symbol of restriction but a practical and familiar part of her daily life.

The actress’s confident use of the burkha in her public image has become a talking point about respect, representation, and understanding in contemporary Bangladesh.
