AR Rahman not Happy with ‘Masakali’ Song Remake? f

“Enjoy the original #Masakali”

Indian composer AR Rahman’s hit song ‘Masakali’ from the 2009 film Delhi 6 has been reworked to create ‘Masakali 2.0’ and it appears the composer is not happy.

Recreated by Tanishk Bagchi and release by T-Series, ‘Masakali 2.0’ (2020) has been sung by Tulsi Kumar and Sachet Tandon.

Released on Wednesday, 8 April 2020, ‘Masakali 2.0’ has garnered over 14 million views on YouTube and is picturised on Sidharth Malhotra and Tara Sutaria.

Despite the current views of the remake, AR Rahman is allegedly not in favour of it. The Oscar-winning music composer, took to Twitter to post a cryptic tweet. In the picture message, he wrote:

“No short cuts, properly commissioned, sleepless nights, writes and re-writes. Over 200 musicians, 365 days of creative brainstorming with the aim to produce music that can last generations.

“A team of a Director, a Composer and a Lyricist supported by actors, dance directors and a relentless film crew. Lots of love and prayers A.R. Rahman.”

He supported the picture message with the caption, “Enjoy the original #Masakali” followed with a link to the original track.

The original song, ‘Masakali’ (2009) was picturised on Abhishek Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor.

It features Mohit Chauhan’s vocals and was penned by Prasoon Joshi. It also appears AR Rahman is not the only one who is dissatisfied with ‘Masakali 2.0’ (2020).

In fact, lyricist Prasoon Joshi also expressed his discontent with the remake. He tweeted:

“All songs written for #Delhi6 including #Masakali close to heart, sad to see when original creation of @arrahman #prasoonjoshi_ & singer @_MohitChauhan insensitively utilised.

“Upto the conscience of @Tseries. Hopefully the fans will stand for originality. @RakeyshOmMehra.”

Not only that. Kangana Ranaut’s outspoken sister Rangoli Chandel has shown her support for music maestro AR Rahman.

Sharing her displeasure, Rangoli took to Twitter to condemn ‘Masakali 2.0’ (2020) as being a “cheap atrocious copy.” She expressed:

“Nothing worse for an artist when his/her genius work violently taken from them and turned into a cheap atrocious copy and sold for dimwits low IQ audience, art must cultivate the audience to enjoy find work not ruin fine work to suit tacky gawar audience.”

The filmmaker of Delhi 6 (2009) further criticised the reprised version of ‘Masakali 2.0.’ He said:

“#Delhi 6 the movie & its songs created with so much Luv & passion, let’s save the original creations for generations to come. #saynotoRemixes.”
