"I find it disgusting and disrespectful"
Boxer Amir Khan has claimed he was removed from his flight in the US by police on September 18, 2021.
His removal from the American Airlines flight was issued after a complaint was made about his friend’s face mask.
In a video posted to Twitter, Amir told his followers he was travelling from New York to Colorado Springs on a domestic flight to begin his training camp for his next fight.
In the video, Amir said:
“A complaint was made by American Airlines staff, they said my colleague’s mask was not high enough and not up, that they had to stop the place and take me and my friend off when I did nothing wrong.
“They kicked us both off. I was sat at 1A and he was sat in 1B.
“I find it disgusting and disrespectful, I was supposed to go to Colorado Springs for a training camp and now I’m back in New York for another day and I have to reschedule another plane to travel back to training camp.
“It’s really upsetting; there was no reason and I’m so disgusted that American Airlines would do this and ban me from travelling.
“There must be cameras that they can see to see if I or my colleague were bad in any way or caused a scene in any way.”
The boxer also said that he had “never seen this happen before” and that he was “heartbroken.”
Disgusted to be banned by @AmericanAir and @traveloneworld for not been able to fly to training camp, i got escorted by police off the plane for no reason. I would like to see evidence for any wrong doings! #AAteam #Notallterrorists pic.twitter.com/dL3UfFcYYl

In response to Amir’s video, American Airlines made the following statement:
“Prior to takeoff, American Airlines Flight 700, with service from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), returned to the gate to deplane two customers who reportedly refused to comply with repeated crew member requests to stow luggage, place cell phones in airplane mode and adhere to federal face-covering requirements.”
They concluded the statement with:
“Our Customer Relations team is reaching out to Mr Khan to learn more about his experience and reinforce the importance of policies implemented for the safety of our customers and crew.”
Amir has not boxed professionally for over two years.
His last boxing match was against Billy Dib in Saudi Arabia.
The boxer had contemplated hanging up his belt and retiring but he is now looking to settle his ongoing rivalry with Kell Brook.
Kell Brook held the IBF welterweight title from 2014 to 2017.
The fight is planned to take place in December 2021 in Saudi Arabia.
It is likely to be Amir’s last fight.
