"It was so wrong of them"
After the first photos of her daughter went viral on social media, Anushka Sharma has issued a request for her fans and the media.
Taking to her Instagram Story, the actress penned a statement, requesting fans and media portals not to publish photos of her daughter.
Anushka added that she wasn’t aware that the camera was on them.
The actress wrote: “Hi guys!
“We realise that our daughter’s images were captured at the stadium yesterday and widely shared thereafter.
“We want to inform everyone that we were caught off guard and didn’t know that the camera was on us.”
Assuring that their stand on the matter remains the same, she said:
“Our stance and request on the matter stay the same.
“We would really appreciate it if Vamika’s images are not clicked/published for reasons we have explained earlier. Thank you!”
Virat Kohli shared the same note on his Instagram Story.
Anushka’s fans defended her online and took to social media to express their anger.
One fan wrote: “The broadcaster should have respected their privacy.”
Another added: “It was so wrong of them to show Vamika’s face especially when Virat and Anushka had specifically asked not to do so.”
A third tweeted:
“Well, honestly it was a terrible thing for them to do, by not respecting the privacy they needed!”
Anushka and Vamika were watching the Indian cricket team play against South Africa in Cape Town when the broadcaster panned the camera to the stands showing them cheering for Virat.
Vamika’s face was also revealed for the first time.
Anushka and Virat have made multiple requests to paparazzi and the media, asking them not to publish pictures of their daughter.
In a statement shared in 2021, Anushka and Virat said:
“We seek privacy for our child and would like to do our best to give her a chance to live her life freely away from media and social media.
“As she is older, we cannot restrict her movement and hence your support is needed so kindly practice (refrain) in the matter.
“A special thank you to fan clubs and people of the internet for going out of your way to not post images.
“It was kind and highly mature of you.”
Vamika was born on January 11, 2021.
While Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli often share pictures of her on their social media handles, they make sure never to reveal her face.
