"I tried to control but I can’t and started crying"
Dr Fiza Akbar has broken her silence on a video clip of her crying that went viral.
In a notable event a few months ago, Dr Fiza Akbar conducted a special programme from the Line of Control.
There, she had the opportunity to interact with soldiers stationed on the frontline.
During her visit, she became visibly emotional and footage of her tearful moment went viral on social media.
It drew criticism and trolling from some quarters.
She revealed: “I was so saddened by people’s criticism.”
Reflecting on this incident during an appearance on Hafiz Ahmed’s podcast, Dr Fiza Akbar recounted her experience at the LOC.
Detailing the difficulty of the climb and her subsequent emotion, Dr Akbar said:
“It was a 12-hour long journey and we were tired we just stayed 2 hours in between and after fajr we continued.
“When I reached the top I saw there was Pakistan’s flag flying in the air while all the soldiers were there singing patriotic songs so I just thought that because of them we are safe in our homes and can sleep without any tension.
“I tried to control but I can’t and started crying due to emotional attachment with our country and our flag.”
Dr Fiza Akbar acknowledged that her emotions overwhelmed her but was unaware that the moment had been captured on camera.
She emphasised that anyone witnessing such a patriotic atmosphere would likely feel similarly moved.
Dr Akbar explained the intense emotions evoked by witnessing first-hand the sacrifices made by the soldiers for their country.
Netizens sided with Dr Akbar and said her emotions were justified.
A user questioned: “This lady is a very deep thinker. Very impressed. Anyone would have cried in such a situation. What is there to criticise?”
Another added: “All the haters are the people who are looking to leave Pakistan. Fiza has a true patriotic spirit.”
One wrote:
“I cried when I saw you cry. You are an inspiration to me.”
However, others continued to criticise her.
One said: “Ugh, this woman’s non-stop talking gave me a headache. She is mostly talking rubbish! What was the value added in having her on?”
Another commented: “She knew that there were cameras on her. It was all just an act.”
