The veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan will be rewarded with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. This award is a symbol of India’s greatest honour for cinematic art.

In this instance, Prakash Javadekar, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister, took to Twitter to announce the news. He stated:

“The legend Amitabh Bachchan who entertained and inspired for 2 generations has been selected unanimously for #DadaSahabPhalke award. The entire country and international community is happy. My heartiest congratulations to him.”

The megastar of Bollywood has entertained audiences in India and across the globe for over five decades.

Amitabh Bachchan began his career in 1969 with his debut film, Saat Hindustani. He portrayed one of seven protagonists in the film.

Despite the actor’s initial struggle, he managed to gain recognition for his talent. Nevertheless, Prakash Mehra’s crime-thriller, Zanjeer (1973) saw Amitabh as an angry young man who marked his avatar.

Ever since then, the actor has achieved greater strength and heights with his career. Films such as Deewaar (1975), Sholay (1975), Don (1978) and so on, have been some of his biggest hits.

From the Angry Young Man, he became known as the Shahenshah (king of kings) of Bollywood.

Amitabh Bachchan has previously won numerous awards. These include:

  • Padma Shri (1984) – recognition for contribution in the arts.
  • Padma Bhushan (2001) – third highest civilian award.
  • National Film Award for Agneepath (1990), Black (2005), Paa (2009) and Piku (2015).
  • Padma Vibhushan (2015) – second highest civilian award for exceptional and distinguished service.

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award will certainly add to Amitabh Bachchan’s already impressive achievements.
