Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt, who made her big-screen debut with Student of the Year (2012), has started shooting for her Telugu debut.

The adored Bollywood actress has ventured into South Indian cinema with filmmaker SS Rajamouli for his upcoming Telugu film RRR.

Alia Bhatt joined the RRR team to shoot a portion of the film in the first week of December 2020, in Hyderabad.

The Raazi (2018) actress has been paired opposite beloved Telugu film actor Ram Charan.

Alia was roped in to play a pivotal character called Sita. The film is set to release in five languages in 2021.

The actress had taken to Instagram to announce the beginning of her shoot in early December 2020:

The actress captioned a picture of her with RRR director SS Rajamouli: “New day. New beginning.”

On the film, Alia shared: “Shooting for this film was a very different experience for me because along with Hindi, I also had to shoot in Telugu, which is a language I don’t know.”

Alia Bhatt admits that despite the language challenges, she was excited to shoot. She said:

“I literally lived with the lines for a year and a half. By the end of it, I was speaking my lines in my sleep.

“I was waking up and saying my lines for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

“I’m extremely excited and thrilled to be a part of this film.

“I am looking forward to being directed by Rajamouli sir and to work with extremely talented and larger than life actors Junior NTR and Ram Charan Tej.”

The project also stars Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn and Telugu actress Shriya Saran.

RRR marks the maiden collaboration of Telugu film actors Jr NTR and Ram Charan.

Alongside RRR, Alia is also working on her upcoming film Gangubai Kathiawadi (2020) directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Gangubai Kathiawadi had been scheduled for a September 2020 release, however, the film was postponed due to Covid-19.

The Bollywood actress will essay the role of a brothel owner and a matriarch in the soon to be released film.

The crime drama has been co-produced by Jayantilal Gada and Bhansali himself.

The upcoming movie is based on Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai.

Gangubai Kathiawadi has recently mounted the actress-director duo in trouble with Bombay Civil Court.

Allegedly, the family members of Gangubai filed a case against the biopic’s director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Alia Bhatt.

There have been no official statements or confirmation released by the Mumbai Police on the alleged case.
