“My heart forever beats to #Dholida.”

The first song of Alia Bhatt’s upcoming film Gangubai Kathiawadi has been released and shows the actress performing Garba on screen for the first time.

Titled ‘Dholida’, the song features Alia as Gangubai in a white saree, doing garba with her friends in the Kamathipura area.

The song rides high on Alia Bhatt’s confidence as Gangubai, a vulnerable girl-turned brothel owner, who goes on to fight in the elections.

‘Dholida’ is a composition by director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, with lyrics by Kumaar.

The foot-tapping number has been sung by Jahnvi Shrimankar and Shail Hada and choreographed by Kruti Mahesh.

Alia’s garba was an instant hit with her fans.

One fan wrote: “Alia’s expressions at the end, she has outdone herself as Gangubai.”

Another added: “Woah! Her body language changed! She’s such a superb performer. Go, girl!”

A third commented: “She killed it.”

Sharing the song link on Instagram, Alia wrote:

“An absolute dream come true to dance to Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s music.

“My heart forever beats to #Dholida.”

The period drama has been adapted from one of the chapters of noted author Hussain Zaidi’s book, Mafia Queens of Mumbai.

It features Alia in the lead role of Gangubai, one of the most powerful madams from Kamathipura during the 1960s.

Backed by Bhansali Productions and co-produced by Jayantilal Gada’s Pen India Limited, the film also stars Ajay Devgn.

Gangubai Kathiawadi is set to release in cinemas on February 25, 2022.

The film was earlier slated to release on February 18 but was delayed by a week on January 28, 2022.

Upon the completion of the film’s shoot in June 2021, Alia had shared a note detailing the hardships they faced while making the film amid the pandemic.

Alia wrote:

“We started shooting Gangubai on the 8th of December 2019 and we wrapped the film now 2 years later!

“This film and set have been through two lockdowns, two cyclones, director and actor getting Covid during the making!

“The troubles the set has faced is another film altogether!”

“But through all that and more, what I take away is the gigantic life-changing experience!”

Alia Bhatt added:

“Being directed by sir has been a dream all my life, but I don’t think anything would have prepared me for the journey I was on for these two years.

“I walk out of this set a different person today!”

“When a film ends a part of you ends with it. Today I’ve lost a part of me. Gangu, I love you!”

Apart from Gangubai Kathiawadi, Alia’s other future projects include Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, Darlings, RRR and Brahmastra.
