Fans love seeing their favourite stars dazzle as unique characters onscreen.
There is seldom a dull moment at the movies. When the audience steps into the cinema, they expect a great time.
As 2025 draws closer, we look at what the year offers us.
DESIblitz proudly presents five great Bollywood films to look forward to in 2025.
Emergency
Director: Kangana Ranaut
Stars: Kangana Ranaut, Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Mahima Chaudhary
Kangana Ranaut has had people talking ever since she announced this project.
In Emergency, Kangana will star as Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. She also directs this movie.
Gandhi introduced an ’emergency’ period during her second term as PM in the 1970s.
Kangana’s film capitalises on this aspect of Gandhi’s life.
The film was initially scheduled to be released in September 2024, but it failed to obtain clearance from the censors, leading to its postponement.
In November 2024, Kangana announced that Emergency would be released on January 17, 2025.
During the trailer launch, the actress said: “I have faced many obstacles while making this film which is common with every film.
“Every film faces a lot of obstacles and then they find many angels who support you through those obstacles.
“I want to say a special thanks to my cast.”
“Everybody knows I have been boycotted by the film industry.
“It’s not easy to stand with me. It’s not easy to be part of my film and it’s definitely not easy to praise me.
“But, they have done all of it.”
The film also stars Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade and Mahima Chaudhary.
Lahore, 1947
Director: Rajkumar Santoshi
Stars: Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Karan Deol
Sunny Deol and Aamir Khan are two of Bollywood’s finest actors, each with a staggering body of work.
Despite both of them being in the industry for several decades, however, the stars have never collaborated professionally.
That is set to change with Rajkumar Santoshi’s Lahore, 1947.
While Sunny will star in the film as the lead character, Aamir is serving as the producer.
The film was announced in October 2023. Aamir Khan Productions issued a statement.
In it, they professed their excitement about the film. The statement read:
“The entire team at AKP, are most excited and happy to announce our next, starring Sunny Deol, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, titled Lahore, 1947.
“We look forward to collaborating with the immensely talented Sunny, and one of my favourite directors Raj Santoshi.
“The journey we have embarked on promises to be most enriching.”
“We seek your blessings.”
Preity Zinta will also star in the film opposite Sunny. Speaking about her casting, Rajkumar Santoshi expressed:
“Preity Zinta is again playing a very important role on the silver screen with Lahore 1947.
“She is indeed an extremely talented, finest, and most natural actress in our industry.
“Whichever character she plays she invests herself in it and makes the audience feel that she is made for that character.
“Interestingly, the audience will see her again with Sunny Deol.
“This film’s script demands a pair that is as accurate as Sunny and Preity.”
Lahore, 1947 also features Shabana Azmi and Karan Deol.
Deva
Director: Rosshan Andrrews
Stars: Shahid Kapoor, Pooja Hegde
Shahid Kapoor is one of the most acclaimed actors of his time.
He has started in popular Bollywood films including Jab We Met (2007), Haider (2014), and Kabir Singh (2019).
In 2025, Shahid is set to roar with unmatched fervour as he inhabits the world of a rebellious police officer.
Rosshan Andrrews’s Deva will see Shahid play the titular character with the luscious actress Pooja Hegde also set to star.
Investigating a high-profile case, Inspector Deva will find himself entangled in a deceitful maze of betrayal.
Deva was announced in May 2023 and filming wrapped in July 2024.
In April 2024, Shahid teased the action in the film: “[Deva] has a lot of action but it has a lot of story.
“It has a strong sense of thrill and what’s going to happen next.
“The character is very surprising. I’m excited and having a good time on the sets.”
With capable actors like Shahid and Pooja at the centre of it, Deva promises to be a thrilling ride.
Sikandar
Director: AR Murugadoss
Stars: Salman Khan, Rashmika Mandanna
Salman Khan set pulses racing when he announced an exciting new project.
The film, Sikandar, is helmed by none other than AR Murugadoss.
Murugadoss is famous for films including Ghajini (2008) and Holiday: A Soldier is Never Off Duty (2014).
Sikandar was confirmed in March 2024. Salman took to his Instagram profile to share the news.
He wrote: “Glad to join forces with the exceptionally talented, @a.r.murugadoss and my friend, #SajidNadiadwala for a very exciting film!!
“This collaboration is special, and I look forward to this journey with your love and blessings. Releasing EID 2025.”
In May 2024, it was also verified that Rashmika Mandanna would star in the film.
The actress enthused: “I’m truly grateful and honoured to be a part of Sikandar.”
It is rumoured that Salman was in the running for the lead in the aforementioned Ghajini.
However, Aamir Khan was later finalised.
It is exciting that two pioneers of action – Salman Khan and AR Murugadoss – are finally collaborating on a film.
War 2
Director: Ayan Mukerji
Stars: Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, Kiara Advani
When it comes to Bollywood films, few franchises have the audience gripped quite like the YRF Spy Universe.
The series is packed with entertainment galore that includes nail-biting action, iconic characters, and scenic locations.
The upcoming sixth instalment of the franchise is War 2 – an extension of War (2019).
In War 2, Hrithik Roshan will return as Major Kabir Dhaliwal after a special tease in a post-credits scene of Tiger 3 (2023).
The scene shows Kabir defeating a crowd of enemies as he is assigned a dangerous mission, which could form the premise of War 2.
The new film will mark Hrithik’s first collaboration with Jr NTR. Fans are waiting with bated breath to see the two superstars go head-to-head.
In an interview between Hrithik and Film Companion, presenter Anupama Chopra says:
“I’m super excited about War 2. I think you and Jnr NTR in a frame is just inherently so exciting!”
It’s not only the talent in front of the camera that makes this film an awaited project.
Directing War 2 is Ayan Mukerji, who is the genius behind the blockbusters Wake Up Sid (2009), Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013), and Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva (2022).
All of this makes War 2 not just an anticipated film, but also one of the most awaited Bollywood sequels.
