"my mother eloped with him"
An Indian man reportedly eloped with his fiancée’s mother 10 days before his wedding.
The bizarre incident happened in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh.
Rahul vanished with 40-year-old Anita, the mother of his intended bride Shivani, and allegedly stole the family’s life savings and jewellery to fund their escape.
The wedding was set to take place on April 16, 2025.
Shivani and Rahul had finalised the wedding arrangements. Invitations had been sent, guests confirmed, and outfits bought.
But on April 6, Rahul claimed he was going out to buy a last-minute wedding outfit. By that evening, the Indian man had called his father to confess he had run away, asking his family not to search for him.
Meanwhile, Anita had also disappeared. She left no note or explanation for her daughter or husband, Kumar.
Shivani later realised that not only had her mother vanished, but so had the money set aside for the wedding and the family’s jewellery.
Shivani said: “I was supposed to marry Rahul on [Wednesday] April 16, and my mother eloped with him on Sunday.
“Rahul and my mother used to talk on the phone a lot over the past three to four months.”
Expressing her pain, she said: “She can do what she wants now, we don’t care. All we want is that the money and [the] jewellery should be returned to us.”
Kumar, a businessman based in Bengaluru, said he noticed how Rahul would often speak with Anita rather than Shivani.
Despite his suspicions, he stayed silent to avoid disrupting the upcoming wedding.
Kumar has since filed a missing persons report. He tried calling his wife “several times, but she had switched off her phone”.
Rahul initially denied being with Anita, but later admitted to Kumar that she was with him.
Kumar recalled a harsh message sent by Rahul, telling him to “forget about his wife”.
He added: “That man would not speak to my daughter but would keep talking to my wife.
“I live in Bengaluru to run my business. I had heard that, for the past three months, they would talk to each other for 22 hours a day.
“I was suspicious but did not say anything because the wedding was around the corner. Anita left with the man on April 6 and took all our cash and jewellery.”
There has been no update on the pair’s whereabouts since.
