An Indian wedding in Surat, Gujarat, was called off after the groom’s father eloped with the bride’s mother. The incident has left the couple distraught.

It was reported that the unnamed man and woman had been in love in the past. They revived their love and decided to run away together.

The wedding was scheduled to take place during the second week of February 2020.

The 48-year-old man and 46-year-old woman ran away on January 10. After spending several days searching for them, they are nowhere to be found.

It was revealed that the man left his home in Katargam while the woman left her home in Navsari.

According to their families, they then met with each other and eloped.

Both families have admitted that they were left embarrassed by the situation. They have filed missing persons’ complaint with the police.

The bride and groom had been organising their marriage for one year ever since they got engaged.

The community elders gave their blessing for the couple to get married, however, the elopement just before the marriage has left everyone shocked.

The groom’s father was a textile businessman who also worked in property. He had gone missing on January 10.

After finding out that the bride’s mother had also gone missing, both families suspected that they ran away together.

The families were aware that they knew each other as they were previously neighbours. They were also in a relationship until the woman moved to Navsari.

When the Indian wedding was arranged between their children, the man and woman rekindled their relationship and decided to elope.

One relative explained: “They knew each other since they lived in the same society.

“Some of their close friends informed us after they eloped that they had a relationship in the past too.”

“However, she got engaged with her current husband in Navsari.”

The woman had been married to a diamond craftsman who later became a broker. The Times of India reported that news of the elopement has been a point of discussion on social media.

In a similar incident of elopement, a married woman fell in love with her brother-in-law when he visited her house.

The brother-in-law felt the same about his sister-in-law and the two decided to run away together. The woman later went to the police station to justify her decision.

She explained that her husband harassed her and for that reason, she refused to live with him. She revealed her intention to live with her brother-in-law.

Despite her family telling her to go back to her husband, the woman refused.

She eventually left the police station and went to her brother-in-law’s house.
