"I would not be ashamed of being homosexual."
Karthik Kumar responded to his ex-wife’s Suchitra’s claim in which she alleged that he was gay.
The former couple married in 2005 and divorced in 2017.
The Tamil actor and stand-up comedian asserted that if he was gay, he would feel proud.
He said: “If I am a homosexual, no? I would not be ashamed of being homosexual.
“I would be very very proud to be any kind of sexual in the gigantic and glorious spectrum of sexuality that exists out there.
“I would not be ashamed. I would be proud. I would join a pride rally in my city, which I anyway will.
“All kinds of sexualities join the pride rally and show your support.
“There is no shame anymore. There’s just pride. Be proud.”
Although Karthik did not directly mention his ex-wife’s claim, fans seemed to grasp at what he was hinting at.
Reacting to the response, one fan said: “I remember in one of your interviews, you were talking about your ex-wife in an extremely kind and caring manner.
“It’s very bad that she has spoken really horrible about you and cursed you etc.
“Felt very sad to watch that.”
Another viewer added: “Well said! It is none of their business anyway.”
In an interview, Suchitra said that Karthik Kumar, Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan had had gay encounters with each other.
She declared: “My ex-husband, SRK and Karan Johar had a gay encounter in London.
“SRK and Karan usually go to the countries on holiday where gay encounters are legal.”

In his 2017 autobiography, An Unsuitable Boy, Karan Johar broke his silence on rumours regarding a sexual relationship between him and SRK.
Karan wrote: “For me to look at [SRK] in that way or be subjected to those rumours was just ridiculous.
“I used to get appalled at the stories.
“I have heard stories that I was making out with him in the Concorde room of the British Airways lounge in London.
“Even if we had to, would we choose such a public spot?”
“But it didn’t bother him. He said, ‘People talk nonsense, and if a man does not have an extramarital affair, he is supposed to be gay’.”
Meanwhile, as an actor, Karthik was last seen in Annapoorani (2023), where he played Chef Aswin.
He also appeared in the Bollywood film Saathiya (2002).
Following his divorce from Suchitra, Karthik Kumar married Amrutha Srinivasan in 2021.
