"Unfortunately, marriage has become a joke.”
Zaid Ali recently expressed deep concerns about the increasing divorce rates in Pakistan.
The YouTuber attributed the troubling rise in divorces to the negative impact of social media on younger generations.
He noted that the pervasive culture of comparison and superficiality online has distorted the perception of love and relationships.
Reflecting on this issue in an Instagram post, Zaid lamented:
“It breaks my heart to say this but… It almost seems that every other post I see nowadays is someone getting divorced. We live in an era where social media has corrupted our minds.”
He emphasised that individuals often portray idealised versions of their lives, leading to unrealistic expectations in relationships.
Zaid highlighted the detrimental effects of this trend, stating that people feel isolated in their struggles.
It leads them to believe their marriages are uniquely troubled while others appear perfect.
He pointed out: “We live in an era where we believe leaving our partner is better than resolving our issues, and where cheating has become so common.
“Unfortunately, marriage has become a joke.”
His comments come in the wake of high-profile divorces that have captured public attention, such as Aagha Ali and Hina Altaf’s rumoured separation.
Their divorce was recently discussed on Madeha Naqvi’s show.
While neither Aagha nor Hina has addressed the rumours, the public’s curiosity was perked by Aagha’s interviews.
The situation gained further attention when anchor Madiha Naqvi addressed the couple’s marital status during her morning show.
In a segment where actress Shagufta Ejaz had to guess Aagha Ali, Madiha dropped a hint.
She said that the actor, who was married 3-4 years ago, is no longer in a relationship.
This revelation took Vaneeza Ahmed by surprise, as she was unaware of the reported divorce.
Recently, a beloved social media couple, Eefrah and Shahrukh announced their separation, leaving fans heartbroken.
The couple had long been viewed as a model of “couple goals”.
Additionally, Rabeeca Khan’s recent social media reel has further fuelled breakup rumours.
Many netizens are claiming that 2024 is shaping up to be an unfortunate year for love.
With all that’s going on, they agree with Zaid Ali’s statement that social media is corrupting everyone’s minds.
A user said: “Social media is fake. Honestly, I don’t know what to believe anymore.”
Another wrote: “These celebrities and Instagram couples sell us the perfect lies.
“People start raising their expectations, forgetting that every household has their fair share of problems.”
