"It’s pointless to go to these shows.”

Sonya Hussyn appeared on Waseem Badami’s Har Lamha Purjosh and revealed the reason why she did not attend the 2023 Lux Style Awards.

The actress turned up to the talk show in a black shimmery dress.

Waseem asked Sonya if she had just come from the Lux Style Awards but she made her thoughts on award shows clear.

Sonya revealed: “It looks as though I have come from the style awards but I thought we should have our awards here.

“It’s pointless to go to these shows.”

Waseem went on to ask that if they were pointless, why do many celebrities attend?

Sonya said it was her understanding that they had been nominated and were asked to attend the event.

She continued: “Most probably the winners list is communicated to those who are receiving awards so that they make sure they attend the ceremony.

“Those who are not nominated but are seen at the shows are there because they enjoy dressing up.

“I find it too much effort, I would rather dress up and attend Waseem Badami’s show.”

Sonya also took to Instagram to share her true feelings about the nomination criteria and insinuated that there was a bias surrounding the process.

She wrote: “Meaningful content or hit projects? I have never really understood the criteria for these award shows.

“If it is the latter then why were some of my mega-blockbuster dramas like Aisi Hai Tanhai (social media abuse), Nazo (based on child abuse), Ishq Zehnaseeb (dual personality disorder), Shikwa (societal pressures on widows) or Meri Guriya (child abuse) never considered at all in the past?

“I have been silent for seven years but really, were none of them deserving? Not even a single project?

“Anyhow, in a country where veteran artists are given lifetime achievement awards after they’re gone, then of course who am I to question?”

However, Sonya Hussyn is not the only one to question the nominations.

Recently, Sajal Aly and Farhan Saeed also shared their disappointment with the Lux Style Awards and labelled it biased.

Sajal came forward to say that supporting actors and the teams who worked behind the scenes should also be recognised for their hard work.

Sonya is known for her hard-hitting dramas which are a far cry from the usual love triangles and family feud stories.

She is known for choosing roles that are less glamorous and is always applauded for choosing challenging roles.

Her best work was seen in the drama Saraab where she played Hoorain, who suffers from schizophrenia.

Sana is from a law background who's pursuing her love of writing. She likes reading, music, cooking and making her own jam. Her motto is: "Taking the second step is always less scarier than taking the first."
