"Or do they simply choose who is popular?"
Sajal Aly recently took to Instagram to express her frustration with the Lux Style Award nominations.
The prestigious event took place on October 6, 2023, at the Karachi Expo Centre.
In a series of Instagram stories, Sajal weighed in on the nomination process and said she believed many names in the industry deserved to be nominated.
Sajal wrote: “Awards shows are a great way to appreciate art and artists and to encourage us as actors.
“I request Lux Style Awards and their jury to at least nominate those who have done stellar work.
“It is greatly disappointing to me as an artist that LSA routinely ignores other artists who are doing great work.
“For example, Mehwish Hayat who was great in London Nehi Jaoonga, Zara Noor Abbas for Badshah Begum and Ushna Shah for Habs.
“Who exactly are the jury members, do they even watch our shows? Or do they simply choose who is popular?
“It is one thing to not win an award, but to be simply ignored even if you have done great work is heartbreaking to not just one artist, but all.”
Sajal went on to say that apart from actors, teams behind the scenes should be acknowledged for their hard work.
She continued: “My third request is to please add a category to honour supporting actors.
“We have great actors who make our plays stronger because of their contributions. Let’s appreciate them please.”
Ushna Shah shared her sentiments by reposting the stories on her page, but Sajal was met with mixed comments from her fans, with many labelling her jealous.
One comment read: “You should have raised your voice for the deprived actors at the time when nominations were announced.
“Why didn’t you object then?
“What’s the point of firing the shot on somebody else’s shoulder after the award was given? This is just not expected from you Sajal.”
One person told Sajal Aly to return her two Lux Style Award trophies, writing:
“If you have an issue with LSA, then you should return your two awards in protest.”
Some believed Sajal was jealous of Yumna Zaidi, who enjoyed a stellar 2023 with Tere Bin.
Yumna won ‘TV Female Actor (Critics Choice)’ for Bakhtawar over Sajal, who was nominated for her role in Sinf-e-Aahan.
One user said: “Why are you so jealous?
“You know how to use Wahaj’s [Ali] name to become famous soo funny.
“Yumna has huge fandom over the world I think you can understand jealousy girl, can’t receive an award so try to degrade Yumna.”
Another asked: “Why are you jealous of Yumna?”
