Ekta Kapoor took to X to tackle some criticism from social media users.
The criticism was in relation to her film Thank You For Coming, which stars Bhumi Pednekar and Shehnaaz Gill.
The film is about five friends navigating the true depth of their friendship and their relationships.
Thank You For Coming has received a mixed response and reacting to a review which called the film “disappointing”, Ekta replied:
“The amount of noise #thankyouforcoming is making.
“Freedom cannot be decided and accuracy (don’t talk about accuracy) so you just leave it!
“On a positive note, this review made me smile. Polarised content is what is the need of the hour.”
Defending the film, the producer said:
“#ThankYouForComing is a little mad movie made by mad crazy partner Rhea (Kapoor) that doesn’t smash patriarchy but tickles with feathers under its nose so all the bulls**t gets sneezed out!
“There is only mad love for the film or unpalpable anger.
“Me with my thrill issues would want it no other way!
“From being trolled for ruining culture because it ‘promotes’ self-pleasure (how that is ruining anything if you’re keeping your hands to yourself) to being applauded by Indian and international press.
“#ThankYouForComing raises a huge question how comfortable are we with women choosing themselves and who decides how much ‘freedom’ is ‘allowed’ (the irony of this statement).”
Ekta Kapoor also gave a befitting reply to a troll who told her to “stop making adult movies”.
Ekta replied: “No I’m an adult so I will make adult movies.”
Another said: “Shame on you.”
Ekta hit back: “Ok shame on me.”
One social media user also accused Ekta and Karan Johar of “ruining” India’s culture with their films and shows”.
The netizen tweeted:
“You and Karan Johar have ruined the nation.”
Suspicious of the claim, Ekta said: “Hmmmmmm!”
The same user also accused Ekta and Karan of increasing India’s divorce rate.
Ekta replied in a similar way, writing: “Hmmmmmmm hmmmmmm.”
Signing off, Ekta added: “Signing off from Twitter!!! Xoxo #ThankYouforComing.”
Thank You For Coming features an ensemble cast including Dolly Singh, Kusha Kapila, Shibani Bedi, Pradhuman Singh and Karan Kundrra. Anil Kapoor appears in a cameo role.
Since releasing on October 6, 2023, the film has struggled at the box office, grossing just Rs. 4 Crore (£394,000).
