"Dubai has welcomed everyone warmly"

Rimi Sen was once synonymous with early-2000s Bollywood, starring in hits such as Dhoom, Hungama, Golmaal and Phir Hera Pheri.

She also appeared in Coca-Cola adverts and films with Salman Khan, becoming one of the era’s most recognisable leads.

But as the decade ended, Rimi’s screen appearances slowed before she stepped away from acting entirely.

Today, Rimi Sen is based in Dubai and works in real estate. She says the city’s structure and openness have made the transition easier for people from creative industries.

She explained: “Dubai is very welcoming, which is why 95% of the population here consists of expatriates, while the rest are Emiratis.

“Dubai has welcomed everyone warmly, there are mosques here, there are temples too.

“They think about everyone, and the city’s major focus is on how to make people’s lives better, easier, and more comfortable.

“This is something we don’t really see in our country, because the government keeps changing policies overnight, making people’s lives more difficult.

“There are thousands of taxes, endless complications, and it is no longer a business-friendly nation.”

Explaining why the property sector works differently, Rimi continued:

“The real estate market here functions smoothly because there is discipline. You have to work only with agents and agencies.

“Developers do their work, agencies do their part, there is a proper system in place.”

She also contrasted how agents are viewed, saying:

“In India, if you ask for two months’ brokerage, people look at you as if you have committed a crime.”

Rimi Sen hit headlines in 2024 after a public appearance prompted internet users to say she “looked unrecognisable”, claiming she had “undergone plastic surgery”.

Addressing the rumours, she said at the time:

“If people feel that I have had plastic surgery, and if they feel that in a good way, then it’s very good for me.”

“Without even getting plastic surgery done, people are still talking. I have only had fillers, Botox, and PRP treatment done, nothing else.”

She added that she may consider going under the knife:

“One shouldn’t need to get plastic surgery done unless someone is on the run after committing a crime!

“There are so many excellent doctors outside India who are very good at facelifts. I too want to get it done, but I will think about it after I cross the age of 50. For now, these treatments are sufficient.”

Responding to criticism, Rimi Sen said: “Maybe people saw my latest pictures and felt that my skin looked good.

“Anyone can look good by using these treatments and maintaining discipline.

“But if you think what I have done is bad, then tell me how I can correct it, so I can tell my doctors where they are going wrong.”

Her last film appearance was in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s 2011 action drama Shagird.
