"I love the work that is required to be put in"

Vidya Balan explained why her marriage to producer Siddharth Roy Kapur has stayed strong.

The pair have been married since 2012 and have stayed together, touching new highs professionally and personally.

While their marriage has remained solid, Vidya admitted that it involves a lot of work.

She explained: “Marriage involves a lot of work, I agree because you are living with a person you haven’t grown up with.

“It is so easy for you to take the other person for granted, and that is a terrible thing to happen.

“And that is when the spark goes away in marriage.”

During her eight years of marriage, Vidya revealed that she has learnt a number of things. The actress elaborated:

“What I have discovered in these eight years is that the work involved is the effort not to take the other person for granted, and therefore it’s been joyous.

“If you slip up there, it’s not as exciting, just becomes mundane.

“I love the work that is required to be put in to keep the marriage strong and exciting.”

Vidya and Siddharth were married in an intimate ceremony in 2012. However, when he proposed, Vidya previously admitted that it was a shock.

She had said:

“When Siddharth proposed, I couldn’t believe it initially.

“Since we were together, I knew we would talk marriage at some stage.

“And then, he popped the question and did not even wait for a reply. It was taken for granted!”

“I could have gone on living without marriage, but I do not believe in live-in relationships because it may be difficult when you want a child.

“When he proposed, I was like, ‘Okay, so now we need to talk about it’.”

Vidya Balan previously opened up on being body-shamed and revealed that at one time, she used to “hate” her body and her weight had become a “national issue”.

Despite the negativity, Vidya took the time to accept her body and now, she is not bothered about what people say about “the length of your hair, the thickness of your arms, curves, height’ because it doesn’t matter”.

On the work front, Vidya will be seen in Sherni.

In the film, Vidya will play a forest officer. It tells the story of a team of officers and forest guards trying to find a solution to the man-animal conflict depicted in the film.
