A US Indian man has been arrested for allegedly forcing his pregnant girlfriend to take unknown pills at gunpoint with intent to cause a miscarriage.

The incident happened in Bakersfield, California. Police identified the suspect as 23-year-old Jagmeet Singh Sandhu.

According to police, the mother-to-be ended up losing her unborn baby as a result of the incident.

Sandhu was arrested in Bakersfield during the afternoon of Wednesday, December 11, 2019.

This comes after the Bakersfield Police Department received a 911 call at around 1 am that day. They received reports from an unknown caller that a pregnant woman had been held at gunpoint.

Her boyfriend had forced her to consume “numerous” pills with the intention of causing a miscarriage.

Officers arrived at a hospital in the area where the pregnant girlfriend was being treated. She was interviewed in order to confirm the details of the initial report.

Sandhu was identified as the suspect and was arrested on several charges.

In total, he was charged on six felony counts, including first-degree murder, burglary, inflicting corporal injury on a cohabitant, assault with a firearm, false imprisonment with violence and threatening with intent to terrorise.

Search warrants were carried out at locations associated with the suspect. Evidence was found, which linked him to the allegations.

Sandhu was taken into custody where he was remanded at Kern County Jail without bond. He is set to appear in court for a hearing on Friday, December 13, 2019.

The investigation has revealed that Sandhu intended for his pregnant girlfriend to suffer a miscarriage.

However, officers do not know why Sandhu forced the woman to consume the unknown pills in order to kill the unborn child. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding the investigation is advised to call the Bakersfield Police Department on (661) 327-7111, Detective Robles at (661) 326-3953, or the Secret Witness Hotline at (661) 322-4040.

There have been a number of incidents in the United States where family members have been murdered.

A high-profile one took place in Cincinnati, Ohio, where 37-year-old Gurpreet Singh was charged with the murder of his wife and three family members.

Singh had claimed to have discovered the bodies of his wife and his in-laws in April 2019. He had made the 911 call, often leaving his phone to ask his neighbours for help.

The four victims had been shot dead.

Despite his claims, Singh was arrested after investigators suspected that he was responsible. The gun, which had been used was found in a pond near the house.

Other family members were in shock over his alleged responsibility in the quadruple murder.
