“we have sacrificed a lot in making this film"
The highly-anticipated Bollywood film Thalaivi, starring Kangana Ranaut, has been postponed.
The delay comes amid a spike in Covid-19 cases across India.
Following the initial 2020 lockdown, many members of the Bollywood industry waited patiently for the release of their upcoming films in 2021.
However, due to the current second wave of the virus sweeping across India, the films with a closer release date have also been postponed.
The original release date of Thalaivi was April 23, 2021. However, Kangana Ranaut’s ‘dream project’ has now been put on hold.
Thalaivi joins Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi and Amibitabh Bachchan-Emraan Hashmi’s Chehre to be postponed.
The filmmakers of Thalaivi have taken to social media to announce the delay in its release.
In a statement posted on Friday, April 9, 2021, the filmmakers said:
“Dear Audience, WE ARE EXTREMELY GRATEFUL FOR THE TREMENDOUS RESPONSE AND UNCONDITIONAL LOVE YOU’VE SHOWN FOR ‘THALAIVI’ TRAILER.
“As a team, we have sacrificed a lot in making this film and thank every member of the cast and crew who supported us in this challenging but remarkable journey.
“Since the film has made in multiple languages, we would like to release it in all languages on the same day.
“But with an alarming rise in Covid-19 cases, subsequent precautions and lockdowns, even though our film is ready for release on 23rd April, we want to extend all the support towards the government rules and regulations and have decided to postpone release of Thalaivi.
“Though we are deferring the release date, we are confident that we will receive as much love from you all then as well.”
“Stay safe and looking forward to everyone’s support
“With love, Vishnu Vardhan Induri, Shaailesh R Singh and Zee Studios.”
The post’s caption stresses that the filmmakers will always put the safety of the public first.
Instagram users have been commenting on the statement since its release, extending their full support to the Thalaivi team.
One user said: “Good decision by producers.”
Another commented: “You have our support and we are going to watch Thalaivi whenever it releases.”
A third said: “We appreciate your concern for safety of people.”
Thalaivi creators announced the film’s original release date on February 24, 2021, on J Jayalalithaa’s birthday.
The biopic looks at the life of the late Tamil Nadu actress-turned-politician, portrayed by Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut.
When released, Thalaivi will be available to view in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
