“The next Battlefront coming a year from now.”
Electronic Arts (EA) has confirmed a new ‘Star Wars: Battlefront 2’ game for sometime pre-Christmas 2017.
The news was announced at their second quarter investor’s earning call, which sees current and potential investors informed on the profitability of the company and the CEO’s future plans.
Electronic Arts have had a good quarter with their sports division performing above expectation and the well-received releases of ‘Battlefield 1’ and ‘Titanfall 2’.
Among the humdrum of self-congratulatory praise for their performance, EA CEO Blake Jorgensen announced:
“The next Battlefront [will be] coming a year from now.”
This is not completely unexpected as the previous game was also sold around the same time in November 2015.
Plus, with the release of Disney’s sequel to the ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ arriving in December 2017, confirmation for the EA game was only a matter of time.
Although there is no fixed date of release, nor are there any details about the game itself, it does at least allow us to start getting a little excited about the prospect.
Many feel the previous outing was shallow in its gameplay. But Jorgensen has promised that:
“We’re working very hard on making sure that [it] is an extremely deep and engaging offering.”
From Star Wars: Battlefront 2 to More
Another Star Wars game has also been teased by EA.
With Visceral allegedly developing an action game for EA, Jorgensen continued to say:
“We’ve talked about an action title that’s not yet announced, but we’re very excited, and a good chance that will fall into FY18.”
This will put the publication somewhere between April 2017 and April 2018, coinciding with the release of a new Star Wars Disney movie.
Things are looking up for Star Wars fans, as those amongst us are going to have plenty of games to sink our teeth into over the next few years.
We can only hope that ‘Star Wars: Battlefront 2’ or whatever it may actually be called will improve and build upon the previous outing.
