"I have shot while I have been on my period."
Actor Sreeleela recently faced a significant social media storm following her controversial remarks about menstruation and workplace productivity.
The actress made these comments during a success meet for her latest film, Ustaad Bhagat Singh.
These remarks were originally shared on the Sitha mobile app before the post was eventually deleted by the administrators.
Sreeleela stated that most of her movie songs have been appreciated despite her shooting while on her period.
While addressing the audience during the success meet, she officially stated the following words regarding her personal work ethic.
“All of my songs, I can say, most of them at least have been appreciated.
“I have shot while I have been on my period, so that is not an excuse anywhere.
“When we want things in power, when we say we want things equally, I feel we have to push beyond physiological barriers.
“So psychological, physiological, all of this is not an excuse.”
This specific perspective sparked intense backlash from many individuals who believe that menstrual experiences vary greatly among all women.
Critics pointed out that while some face mild discomfort, many others suffer from debilitating pain and severe health conditions.
Many users specifically mentioned that conditions like Polycystic Ovary Syndrome make the monthly cycle extremely difficult for many people.
The backlash was particularly strong because the actress has a medical background, which suggests she should know better.
Social media users began sharing personal accounts of dealing with intense fatigue and painful cramps during their working hours.
They argued that dismissing these real physiological struggles could contribute to unrealistic standards and a lack of support for women.
Public concern grew that her statements overlooked the complex health challenges that many working women face every single month.
The conversation quickly evolved into a much larger discussion.
People emphasised that acknowledging pain is not an excuse but a necessary part of promoting true health and wellness.
Despite the current controversy, the young actress remains very busy with several high-profile film projects in the pipeline.
Sreeleela is currently preparing for her major Bollywood debut in a new film, which is directed by Anurag Basu.
This upcoming Hindi project features the popular actor Kartik Aaryan and is expected to reach a very wide audience.
She is also set to star in a highly anticipated Tamil film project alongside the award-winning actor Dhanush.
This new project is tentatively titled D55 and is being directed by the talented filmmaker named Rajkumar Periasamy.
The star-studded cast of D55 also includes legendary actors like Mammootty and the very talented actress Sai Pallavi.
