"The caller made these statements and terminated the call."
Mumbai Police has filed an extortion case after Shah Rukh Khan received a death threat from a caller who demanded Rs. 50 Lakh (£45,000).
The call came from a mobile number registered to Faizan Khan from Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
The case was filed at Bandra Police Station.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Dikshit Gedam said:
“The caller stated he would kill Shah Rukh Khan if he did not receive Rs. 50 lakh from him.
“The caller made these statements and terminated the call.”
A police team was dispatched to Raipur and Khan was later arrested.
During questioning, Khan claimed he was an advocate and his phone had been stolen on November 2, 2024.
He claimed he had filed a theft complaint and someone had used his phone to threaten Shah Rukh Khan.
It was reported that the threatening call was made to SRK at around 1:20 pm on November 5.
This is not the first time Shah Rukh has received a death threat.
In October 2023, SRK received a threat and afterwards, his security was increased to ensure he would be accompanied by six armed personnel 24/7.
The threat to Shah Rukh comes days after Salman Khan received a threat, allegedly from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
The gang has been targeting Salman over his alleged involvement in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case.
Allegedly from a person claiming to be the brother of Lawrence Bishnoi, the message read:
“Lawrence Bishnoi’s brother is speaking and if Salman Khan wants to stay alive, he should go to our temple and apologise or give Rs. 5 crore.
“If he does not do so, we will kill him, our gang is still active.”
The Mumbai Police subsequently heightened security around Salman and initiated a thorough investigation.
A man, identified as Bhikharam Jalaram Bishnoi was arrested in Karnataka for issuing the threat to Salman Khan.
Salman received a similar threat on October 30, where the individual demanded a Rs. 2 Crore ransom.
The actor’s security was amped up following the murder of Indian politician Baba Siddique outside his son’s office.
Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan recently celebrated his 59th birthday and at his SRK Day event, he said he has quit smoking.
In a moment captured on camera, SRK said:
“The good news is that I’m not smoking anymore, guys.”
Explaining why he has decided to quit, Shah Rukh said he hopes to experience less breathlessness but admitted he is still getting used to the change.
He said: “I thought I wouldn’t feel breathless after quitting smoking, but I still do.
“By God’s grace, that will also be fine.”
