Shah Rukh Khan made a huge announcement on his birthday, revealing he has quit smoking.

The icon celebrated his 59th birthday on November 2, 2024, and he attended his SRK Day event.

During the event, he confirmed he had quit smoking.

The announcement was met with enthusiastic applause from his fans, who were thrilled to hear that their beloved superstar is making lifestyle changes.

In a moment captured on camera, SRK said:

“The good news is that I’m not smoking anymore, guys.”

Explaining why he has decided to quit, Shah Rukh said he hopes to experience less breathlessness but admitted he is still getting used to the change.

He said: “I thought I wouldn’t feel breathless after quitting smoking, but I still do.

“By God’s grace, that will also be fine.”

On social media, fans praised Shah Rukh Khan.

One wrote: “Best news I’ve heard all day!”

Another said: “Wow that’s great news.”

A third added: “This feels like a personal victory.”

One user commented: “The excitement he had while announcing the development, wow.

“It felt like I was holding to some news just to tell that to my favourite person when I meet in person.

“He makes us feel that we are his family.”

Shah Rukh had previously discussed his plans to quit smoking and drinking to spend more time with his son AbRam.

In 2017, he shared: “The presence of a little child at the age of 50, it is a good thing.

“It makes me come alive, it makes me see innocence and love in a different way.

“Having said that, will I be there to do the same thing that I did with my older kids? Yes, that is a worry.

“So that keeps you smoking less, drinking less, exercising more.

“I am planning to give up all (smoking, drinking) and try to be healthier and happier.”

Many Bollywood actors have previously commented on Shah Rukh’s smoking habit.

During a previous interview with Siddharth Kannan, Pradeep Rawat recalled seeing Shah Rukh smoke multiple cigarettes.

He said: “One thing I remember vividly is that I haven’t seen any other actor smoke as much as he did.

“He would light a cigarette, use it to light another, and then light yet another one. He was a true chain smoker. Nonetheless, his dedication to the film was undeniable.”

On the work front, Shah Rukh’s next film will be Sujoy Ghosh’s King, which will also star his daughter Suhana Khan.
