"I wanted to harm our daughter"

Sarwat Gilani recently opened up about her terrifying experience with postpartum depression.

Fans were heartbroken to hear that she even had thoughts of harming her newborn daughter.

On a talk show, Sarwat revealed that she had never experienced postpartum depression following the births of her two sons.

In fact, she wasn’t even aware of the condition until after her daughter was born.

She shared an emotional story about how she couldn’t meet her daughter until four days after birth.

This was due to them being in separate wards.

It was during this time that her baby needed breastfeeding, but Sarwat was in a deep state of depression.

Sarwat said: “She was struggling to breastfeed and I was struggling as well and in that moment I immediately thought of dropping her.

“I was crying uncontrollably and told my husband that I wanted to harm our daughter to stop all the tension.”

What struck fans the most was when she talked about the lack of information many women had during their first pregnancy.

She mentioned how they often rely on books, podcasts and social media for guidance, stating that it is not enough.

Sarwat stressed that the first pregnancy is already so challenging, and women face all sorts of psychological issues. That’s why support from husbands and in-laws is crucial.

She said: “When a pregnant woman receives support from her family, it positively impacts her mental health.”

Luckily, Sarwat’s husband was there for her when she needed him the most.

He reassured her and explained that she was experiencing postpartum depression, which wouldn’t last forever.

His words provided her with some comfort and understanding, which made a huge difference.

Sarwat stressed how important it is for everyone to be aware of postpartum depression, not just women but also men.

She said:

“I realised then how critical it is for everyone to understand this condition.”

Sarwat Gilani’s message resonated with many fans and followers.

One user said: “This is so true and so common! But our society says stuff like you can’t raise one child while we raised ten while doing all this work.”

Another wrote: “Most of the people are not even aware of postpartum depression and they always blame mothers.”

One commented: “This is a serious problem and most of the families are not aware of it.”
