A New Delhi court has granted interim protection to Haryanvi singer and actor Sapna Choudhary under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act.

The order was passed ahead of the premiere of her upcoming film Momacu.

The court has restrained her husband Yashveer Sahu from approaching or contacting her in any manner until the next date of hearing.

He has also been specifically barred from visiting her residence, her workplace and the premiere venue of the film under the terms of the protective order.

The matter came before the court after Choudhary filed an application stating that her husband had repeatedly assaulted her and created unpleasant scenes in public.

She had previously left their shared home along with her two minor children following what the case record describes as repeated instances of domestic violence.

After leaving the marital home, she filed a formal domestic violence complaint, setting in motion the legal process that led to the protective order.

The court’s decision was based on a careful consideration of documentary evidence and serious concerns related to her personal safety.

Judicial Magistrate Nidhi Singh took note of medical evidence of injuries sustained by Choudhary.

This included photographs of those injuries allegedly caused by Sahu and recordings of threats he allegedly made.

Based on this material, the court passed a clear and direct order restraining Sahu from “approaching the petitioner in any manner till the next date of hearing.”

The court further directed: “Respondent is restrained from contacting the petitioner in any manner or visiting her place of residence or work (temporary or permanent, including the venue of the premiere of the movie as stated above) and committing any act of domestic violence till the next date of hearing.”

The application had warned of “a grave apprehension that respondent will create a hindrance” at the premiere “by threatening, assaulting and creating a public scene to malign the reputation of petitioner.”

The relief was secured following detailed and persuasive arguments presented by Choudhary’s counsel Advocate Preeti Singh.

Singh stated to the press after the order was passed, addressing the significance of the court’s decision for her client and for women more broadly.

“As the matter is sub judice, we will refrain from commenting on the merits and have full faith in the judicial process.”

Singh had also argued before the court that there were “serious apprehensions of repetition of such acts,” making the need for immediate and firm protection abundantly clear.

Judicial Magistrate Nidhi Singh additionally directed the concerned protection officer and the area SHO to ensure that a copy of the order reaches the husband without delay.

The court also directed that all necessary assistance and protection be provided to the singer as she prepares for her public appearances connected to the film’s release.

Summons have been issued to Yashveer Sahu to appear before the court in the domestic violence case, which has now been scheduled for its next hearing on July 25, 2026.
