"It's fun to walk the ramp. Ritu is a dear friend and brilliant designer."

Designer Ritu Pande featured tennis professional Sania Mirza to be the showstopper for her latest collection titled ‘Lady in Lace’ at Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) on October 10, 2014.

Sania donned a stunningly minimal gold and white maxi dress with delicate embroidery. With her hair down and loosely curled on one side, she looked stunning on the ramp.

Pande’s customer centric approach and creative aesthetical vision is believed to have brought fashion devotees a fusion between traditional and contemporary.

The concept of Ritu Pande’s 2015 collection, ‘Lady in Lace’, follows the delicate details of embroidery supported with lace to bring a sense of sophistication.

Sania MirzaHer garments toy with the purity of white, the delicateness of hue blue and blossoming corals – definitely a colour palette that constitutes the freshness of Spring/Summer.

The style enthusiast herself has witnessed a transition of trends having resided in Mantra for over a decade. She has grown successfully as a fashion designer since her initial appearance way back in 1988 in India’s most populous city, Mumbai.

Owner of a multiple number of stores across India, Singapore, America and across the Middle East, Ritu Pande’s label continues to flourish in the field of fashion. Pande explains:

“It is wonderful to be back and in fact a great honor. This platform has very much been like a home for me. It gives great exposure and a serious and creative mix to any designer to express oneself through a collection that reflects pure sense of aesthetics without any constraints.’’

Heading into her 7th season with WIFW, the fashion entrepreneur enlisted the help of Sania Mirza to present her most recent collection.

She has previously styled the likes of Katrina Kaif, Madhuri Dixit and Neha Dhupia and is therefore not shy of producing customised designs for the lavish and opulent.

Sania MirzaSpeaking of Sania Mirza, the tennis court is presumably one of the last places one would expect a model to be born but professional tennis player Mirza tells a different story.

Mirza has had previous experience in the world of fashion having walked the ramp at Mumbai’s Blenders Pride Fashion Tour representing designer twosome Shantanu and Nikhil. Speaking about walking for Ritu’s show, Sania said:

“It’s fun to walk the ramp. Ritu is a dear friend and brilliant designer. I am walking the ramp after a year and it’s something which I don’t do often.”

“Like any other girl, I love fashion a lot. I love to dress-up for occasions. I don’t follow trends and love comfortable clothes.”

WIFW is hosted by the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI). For 2014, the prestigious event is set to be actively occupied with top fashion industry personnel with over 120 stall exhibitors and 30 shows.

The five day fashion and trade occasion, which commenced Wednesday 8th 2014, pokes insight into what trends and styles Spring Summer 2015 predicts to bring.

The official WIFW website announced: “The Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Spring-Summer 15 will offer unrestrained glamour, sassy hues, natty presentations, effective business opportunities, and exquisite lounges to toast the unparalleled in fashion.”

The Indian fashion commerce is renowned for its collaboration of East meets West with its intertwining of conventional with unconventional and customary with creativity.

Such innovative visions will be brought to life by an array of established designers at the fashion show this year, which boasts international exposure. As India’s highest ranked tennis player, it is safe to say Sania Mirza was the match winner on the runway.
