"threats I received went up by 2,000 per cent."
Sadiq Khan has blamed Donald Trump for the increasing number of death threats he receives, as their feud rages on.
The Mayor of London claimed that upon Trump’s election, death threats increased by 2,000%.
Khan made the remarks during an interview with Republica, where he spoke about the personal impact of receiving threats and requiring police protection.
He said: “It’s very difficult for me, personally, for my family, [and for] my friends, it’s never nice having death threats and requiring police protection.
“We did some analysis, and when President Trump got elected, the amount of threats I received went up by 2,000 per cent.
“When he was elected the second time, it’s gone up by 100 per cent.”
Khan said the threats should not be “part and parcel” of the job, citing MPs Jo Cox and Sir Amess, who were both stabbed to death.
On why he thought the US President was critical of London, Sadiq Khan said that “President Trump and his acolytes in MAGA” were “nativists”.
He added: “There’s a number of reasons why people attack at London. We are a city that’s progressive, liberal, diverse, multicultural, and incredibly successful.”
The mayor also repeated previous claims that China and Russia had spread misinformation about London.
The relationship between Khan and Trump has been marked by public disagreements and personal attacks for almost a decade.
Trump has previously described Khan as a “horrible” mayor, calling him “incompetent” and claiming that mass migration had made London a “different place”.
Sadiq Khan has often responded publicly to the criticism. Earlier in 2026, during an appearance on BBC Radio 4, he suggested that Trump’s comments reflected envy towards the capital.
He said: “I’ve had the full support, not just of the Prime Minister and the Foreign Secretary but from the Government and from Londoners.
“And I think what today shows is one of the reasons why we are the greatest city in the world, and why President Trump is a bit jealous.”
The exchanges continued after Trump’s speech to the United Nations in 2025, when he claimed that Khan wanted to impose Sharia law on London.
In response, the mayor accused the US President of being “racist, sexist, misogynistic, and Islamophobic”.
He added: “I appear to be living rent-free in Donald Trump’s head.”
