Romesh Ranganathan speaks out about doing Celebrity Traitors with his friend Rob Beckett, admitting he “can’t be trusted”.
The comedians, who have worked together for a decade, are among 21 celebrities competing in season two of the BBC reality show.
Hosted by Claudia Winkleman, Celebrity Traitors will see the contestants enter the Scottish castle in the hope of winning £100,000 for charity.
However, Romesh said his friendship with Rob could be tested by the game.
On what it was like filming the show with Rob, Romesh said:
“Well, it’s weird, isn’t it? Because Rob is one of my best friends, and we’ve worked together for a decade now, but I still won’t be able to trust him.
“I mean, he’s just as easily going to be on my side as he is going to twist the knife in my back given the opportunity. I mean, it’s completely unpredictable.”
The comedians also host Rob and Romesh Vs, where they normally have each other’s backs.
Romesh added: “Whereas this time, he can’t be trusted. It can’t be the end of the relationship because it’s financially beneficial.
“But I think if it wasn’t financially beneficial, then it could be the end of the friendship.”
When asked whether they would betray each other during the game, Romesh did not hesitate:
“In a heartbeat, yeah. Yeah, I think I would. It’s all fair in Traitors, isn’t it?
“It’s just a game that has real-world implications for working relationships.”
Claudia has also revealed that Rob provided one of the funniest moments during filming, with the presenter saying she laughed so much that she had to “hide in a bush”.
Alongside Romesh and Rob, the celebrity line-up features Amol Rajan, Professor Hannah Fry, Michael Sheen, James Blunt, Jerry Hall and Joanne McNally.
Julie Hesmondhalgh, King Kenny, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Myha’la, Ross Kemp, Sebastian Croft, Sharon Rooney, Richard E Grant, Maya Jama, Bella Ramsey, Joe Lycett, Miranda Hart and James Acaster are also taking part.
The Celebrity Traitors debuts on October 1 at 8 pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
