A video of British-Pakistani actor Riz Ahmed fixing his wife’s hair on the Oscars 2021 red carpet has gone viral.
Ahmed and his wife Fatima Farheen Mirza made their first public appearance at the Oscars on Sunday, April 25, 2021.
Riz Ahmed received an Oscar nomination for Best Actor for his role in Sound of Metal.
However, it was his affectionate gesture towards his wife on the red carpet that won the world over.
Fatima Farheen Mirza looked stunning in a turquoise caped Valentino gown and red heels.
Yet, doting husband Riz Ahmed came through to make sure her hair looked perfect for the cameras.

After telling the photographers to wait “one second”, the viral video shows Ahmed smoothing Mirza’s hair behind her shoulders.
He then joked:
“I’m the official groomer for the evening.”
Fans and onlookers flocked to social media to praise Ahmed for his heart-melting gesture. They also branded the newlyweds “major couple goals”.
One Twitter user said: “Not Riz Ahmed pausing the Oscars red carpet to fix his wife’s hair WHAT A PERFECT HUMAN.”
Another commented: “Did anyone else pass away watching Riz Ahmed tenderly fix his wife’s hair.”
A third said:
“I wish us all a very ‘Riz Ahmed Fixing Our Hair for the Perfect Pic’ kinda love.”
The 2021 Oscars saw actor Riz Ahmed and novelist Fatima Farheen Mirza make their public debut after tying the knot in 2020.
According to Ahmed in an interview with Jimmy Fallon, the couple met in a cafe after “jostling” over the same laptop plug point.
They then married in a private ceremony during the pandemic.
Although Riz Ahmed did not take home the Oscar for Best Actor, he has already made history as the category’s first Muslim and South Asian nominee.
Speaking to DESIblitz about the diversity within the 2021 Oscars, Ahmed had said:
“Well, I think if it makes a contribution down that road of broadening people’s horizons and opening up opportunities, I’m glad.
“And I’m aware that the success of individuals doesn’t necessarily result into the whole system being changed.
“And I think, as well as celebrating these individual successes, we have to keep an eye on the bigger picture – understand that there’s still work to be done.”
Anthony Hopkins took home the Oscar for Best Actor. However, Riz Ahmed’s film Sound of Metal picked up two awards during the ceremony.
Out of its six nominations, Sound of Metal won the Oscars for Best Film Editing and Best Sound.
