“There will be zero tolerance for those involved."
The action thriller Taandob, starring Shakib Khan and directed by Raihan Rafi, was leaked online in full HD just days after release.
Despite opening strongly in 133 cinemas across Bangladesh, the film’s run has been marred by rampant piracy.
Clips began appearing on social media platforms shortly after the film’s Eid release.
By the fifth day, the entire film had surfaced on Telegram and other unauthorised websites.
This has severely impacted its box office momentum.
Taandob, which paired Shakib Khan with Sabila Nur for the first time, has received praise for its intense storyline.
Viewers were also thrilled by Afran Nisho and Siam Ahmed’s surprise cameos.
Its wide release and buzz had positioned it as one of the most anticipated films of the season.
That anticipation, however, quickly gave way to industry concern.
Producer Shahriar Shakil confirmed they had hired anti-piracy firms before the release.
He said: “But the reality is that within hours, our content was being illegally circulated.
“We’ve filed complaints and are cooperating with cybercrime units.”
Raihan Rafi also voiced his frustration, saying:
“There will be zero tolerance for those involved. We’ve already reported the piracy to the authorities.
“Our tech team is tracing the sources. Modern tools allow us to detect distribution trails, and we are ready to take legal action.”
The leak has renewed fears about the future of theatrical films in Bangladesh, where piracy continues to threaten filmmakers’ revenue and audience turnout.
This isn’t the first time Shakib Khan has faced this issue. His previous Eid film Borbaad was also pirated within weeks of release.
In the case of Taandob, the breach came even sooner, raising fresh questions about security and enforcement.
Still, the team behind the film remains hopeful. Shahriar said:
“Our viewers understand that pirated screens can’t deliver the cinema experience.”
He added that ticket sales remained strong in several theatres, with most shows sold out in advance.
The cast also includes Jaya Ahsan, Afzal Hossain, FS Nayeem, Shahiduzzaman Selim, and Rosey Siddique.
The film’s team is now urging government agencies to take swift, meaningful action.
Shahriar added: “This isn’t just about one film. It’s about the survival of the creative industry in the face of theft.”
Multiple Facebook pages and groups have already been taken down. Legal notices are now being issued to trace key culprits.
