"He took part in various activities in school."
Actor and Bigg Boss 10 contestant Rahul Dev reminisced about his schooldays with Shah Rukh Khan.
Rahul shared that SRK was very high achieving in sports with a particular zeal for cricket:
“I know SRK since school. He used to be the wicketkeeper and I was the fast bowler.
“He was my senior and that year he won the Sword Award also. I would compare the history and legacy of St Columba’s to that of Eton in England.
“Our school had a very rich tradition. However, it no longer is the institution it used to be.
“At that time Sword of Honour was given to a student who wasn’t just brilliant at academics but also would be inspirational for all his peers.
“Shah Rukh was that kind of a person in school. He was exceptional.”
Rahul Dev admitted that it was not surprising that Shah Rukh went on to become a superstar.
He continued: “I don’t find it surprising that SRK has become a superstar.
“There will be no Shah Rukh Khan in the next 1,000 years. He took part in various activities in school.
“He was first in football, hockey, cricket and every game.”
Rahul also shared his thoughts on the massive success of Jawan (2023):
“I am not surprised by his massive comeback. It was long overdue.
“I would say, ‘Khan Sahab should have done this a long time ago’. We are proud of him. He is part of the Columban heritage.”
Jawan was released on September 7, 2023. It starred Shah Rukh Khan and Nayanthara. Deepika Padukone and Sanjay Dutt also made cameo appearances in the film.
The movie was a giant blockbuster for SRK. The film grossed over Rs. 1,144 Crore (£113 million) at the box office.
Singer Palash Sen also went to school with SRK. Like Rahul Dev, Palash also had no doubts about the star’s talent.
He divulged: “Shah Rukh was my schoolmate, and my mate at all the co-curricular activities.
“We were into sports, debating, quizzing, everything, we were always together.
“The one thing he couldn’t do was sing, that I did for him. There was a musical that we did, he had a role in it but he could not sing.
“I was standing in the wings and I was singing for him.”
“He was one of my closest friends when we were in school. He knew he wanted to be an actor, and be huge.”
“He was very sure.”
On the work front, Shah Rukh will next be seen in Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki. The film is set to release in India on December 22, 2023, and a day earlier in overseas territories.
Boman Irani will also star in the film. He teased that Dunki has turned out very well and will be a “hat-trick” for SRK.
The film marks Shah Rukh’s first collaboration with Taapsee Pannu.
Meanwhile, Rahul Dev last starred as Nader Shah in the Punjabi historical action film Mastaney (2023).
