He was then stripped naked before being beaten again.
Punjabi singer Elly Mangat was allegedly “stripped and beaten naked” by the police. He claimed he was assaulted by the DSP, an inspector and two constables from Sohana Police Station, Punjab.
He explained the ordeal on Instagram Live and said it happened when he was meant to confront fellow singer Rami Randhawa whom he had been feuding with.
Elly stated that there would be no violence when he eventually met with Rami.
Elly said he had arrived from Canada and was travelling to where he was supposed to go when his vehicle was stopped by the police.
The musician claimed that he and his friend Hardeep were calmly asked to sit in DSP Ramandeep Singh’s car. They then went to Sohana Police Station.
However, Elly said that he was taken to the SHO room where there were no CCTV cameras and was beaten.
He was then stripped naked before being beaten again. The singer said that if any videos of him naked being beaten go viral, then the DSP and his officers are responsible.
Many of his fans had seen him and were outside the police station.
Elly alleged that he also hit in front of his fans before they were also assaulted. He said that many of the fans were teenagers and they were beaten badly.
The Punjabi singer filed a complaint with the Director-General of Police (DGP) for action against the DSP and his officers.
The complaint stated the DSP had accused him of being associated with gangsters.
His lawyers have said that the torture is a violation of the orders of the Supreme Court. The complaint was also made to the Chief Justice of India.
Despite there being no gunfire, the DSP told him that his friend was in possession of a licenced revolver. DSP Singh said that he would fire it twice and add to the case against Elly.
As well as being allegedly beaten, Elly Mangat said the police told him they should be given a better car.
The officers also allegedly told Elly that if he wanted the beating to stop, give them Rs. 25 Lakhs.
The singer’s lawyers explained that he was taken to hospital on the instructions of the court. Doctors confirmed he had injury marks in seven places on his body.
Doctors also provided their report. All the reports were collated and sent to Punjab DGP Dinkar Gupta.
