the panchayat accused the victim of being characterless
A horrific video has gone viral, showing an Indian woman being beaten and stripped by four men for allegedly being characterless.
The incident happened in the village of Tulsi Bari in Madhepura, Bihar.
In addition to being stripped and beaten, the woman was also burnt with an iron rod.
It was reported that on the night of March 19, 2022, the woman had been in a field when four men tried to rape her.

On March 20, the four men tried to rape the victim again but when she resisted, they hit her.
The woman managed to escape her attackers, informing the village panchayat about her ordeal.
However, the men grabbed hold of the Indian woman and violently assaulted her, beating her with hot iron rods.
It was reported that after hearing about the ordeal, the panchayat accused the victim of being characterless and ordered the men to strip her.
The video shows the woman being surrounded by her attackers and assaulted whilst having her saree pulled off.
Meanwhile, villagers are seen watching the incident unfold instead of trying to help her.
The woman is heard screaming as she falls to the ground.
The beating was so severe that it resulted in the woman falling unconscious. At that point, the men stopped attacking her.
She was taken to hospital for treatment and the police were informed. The woman explained her ordeal to officers.
