"When I wasn't feeling numb, I felt lonely, sad"
Priyanka Chopra revealed that she went through a low phase in 2016 as she was dealing with a break-up at the time.
She was also still reeling from the death of her father, Dr Ashok Chopra, in 2013.
The actress had just moved to New York to shoot for the TV show Quantico.
Priyanka detailed the low points in her life in her memoir, Unfinished. She said it left her feeling “numb” and “isolated”.
She also revealed the effect it had on her.
Priyanka had stopped going out completely, except when she had to film the show. She also gained around nine kilograms in weight and could not sleep at night.
In her book, she wrote:
“When I wasn’t feeling numb, I felt lonely, sad, and isolated.
“No one understood what was going on inside me, because I didn’t tell anyone.”
She also revealed that she did not even confide in her mother, Dr Madhu Chopra.
While Priyanka Chopra is happily married to Nick Jonas, 2016 was a low point in her life.
Unfinished also details Priyanka’s childhood and being subjected to racist bullying as a student in the United States.
Priyanka also revealed a shocking encounter with a film director during the early days of her career.
On the meeting, she wrote:
“After a few minutes of small talk, the director/producer told me to stand up and twirl for him. I did.”
“He stared at me long and hard, assessing me, and then suggested that I get a boob job, fix my jaw, and add a little more cushioning to my butt.
“If I wanted to be an actress, he said, I’d need to have my proportions ‘fixed’, and he knew a great doctor in LA he could send me to.
“My then-manager voiced his agreement with the assessment.
“I left the director/producer’s office feeling stunned and small. Was he right that I couldn’t be successful unless I had so many body parts ‘fixed?’
“I thought of how individuals in the media and others in the industry had referred to me as ‘dusky’ and ‘different-looking,’ and I wondered if I was cut out for this business after all.”
Priyanka did not listen to the director and parted ways with her then-manager shortly after.
On the work front, Priyanka was last seen in the Netflix hit The White Tiger.
She is currently filming the Amazon series Citadel, which also stars Richard Madden and Ashleigh Cummings.
Priyanka also has several upcoming film projects, including The Matrix 4 and Text For You.
The actress is also set to executive produce an Amazon series with her husband, titled Sangeet.
