"I was unrecognisable completely"
Deepika Padukone contracted Covid-19 in 2021. She has now spoken about her battle with the virus, revealing that it left her “unrecognisable”.
The actress and her family all tested positive in April.
While she recovered in a matter of a few weeks, Deepika took a two-month break before getting back to work.
Deepika has now said that she took a break because her “mind wasn’t working” and that it was a “very, very difficult phase” for her.
She explained how Covid-19 affected her physically.
Deepika said: “Life after Covid changed for me because physically, I was unrecognisable completely… I think (due to) the medication I was given, the steroids that I was put on.
“So Covid in itself was weird, your body feels different, your mind feels different.”
Deepika went on to say that it was not the illness itself that affected her that much but more so, the after-effects.
She continued: “I felt that when I had the illness it was still okay but after that, I needed to take two months off work because my mind wasn’t working.
“The phase for me was very, very difficult.”
On the work front, Deepika Padukone is preparing for the release of Gehraiyaan, which is directed by Shakun Batra.
The film, which also stars Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Panday, and Dhairya Karwa, is set to release on Amazon Prime Video on February 11, 2022.
Deepika revealed the film’s posters on her birthday.
In an Instagram post, she shared various posters and wrote:
“A little birthday present for all the love you have showered us with!”
Gehraiyaan has been described as a drama about complex, modern relationships.
The official synopsis of Gehraiyaan reads:
“Directed by the very talented Shakun Batra, the much-awaited movie looks beneath the surface of complex modern relationships, adulting, letting go and taking control of ones’ life path.”
In a statement, Shakun said of the film:
“Gehraiyaan for me is not just a movie.
“It is a journey into the intricacies of human relationships, it is a mirror into modern adult relationships, how we traverse through the maze of feelings and emotions and how each step, each decision we make affects our lives and the lives of those around.”
