"People make mistakes."
Deepika Padukone will soon be seen in Gehraiyaan, which explores complex relationships, betrayal and infidelity.
The actress recently opened up about her take on a partner who is cheating on her.
Deepika said: “It’s a deal-breaker for me.
“Though I feel like it’s far more complicated than just giving a straightforward answer like ‘Oh it’s a deal-breaker for me’.
“I think there are so many factors that come into play.
“Like ‘how much does that relationship mean to you,’ ‘how much are both people willing to work at it,’ ‘was it a mistake’, ‘is it a habit’, I think there’s just so many things that come into play.
“People make mistakes.
“A lot of times people make the choices that they do for various reasons.”
The actress added that as a society, people are conditioned to think that infidelity is bad.
Deepika continued: “You start looking at it differently.
“This is not to say that I am okay with it and I have not been okay with him.”
In the past, Deepika had admitted that her partner had cheated on her and she had caught him red-handed.
It was assumed that she was hinting at her ex-boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor.
Deepika Padukone is happily married to Ranveer Singh while Ranbir Kapoor is in a relationship with Alia Bhatt.
In her upcoming film, Deepika Padukone cheats on her partner.
However, director Shakun Batra shared that the characters in Gehraiyaan don’t cheat under the pretence of finding love.
Shakun said: “I grew up on regular Bollywood films — Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Kabhi Kabhie.
“While speaking of infidelity, most of these films revolved around finding a soulmate.
“Gehraiyaan is different because here characters don’t cheat under the garb of finding true love.
“In today’s time, people are looking at love differently.”
“It’s not about finding the one but giving in to what you are feeling at that moment.
“Affairs can happen because you find someone who helps you find yourself, not because you find your soulmate.”
Gehraiyaan has been described as a drama about complex, modern relationships and also features Naseeruddin Shah and Rajat Kapur in pivotal roles.
The official synopsis of Gehraiyaan reads:
“Directed by the very talented Shakun Batra, the much-awaited movie looks beneath the surface of complex modern relationships, adulting, letting go and taking control of ones’ life path.”
Gehraiyaan, which was earlier slated to release on January 25, 2022, will now stream on February 11 exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
