It’s fair to say everyone is still obsessed over actress Priya Prakash Varrier – and each day she gains new fans on social media. Of course, this means she surpasses new feats, particularly on Instagram.
Now she has gained more followers than Mark Zuckerberg, the owner of Instagram and Facebook!
The entrepreneur has a healthy number of 4M fans on the social media platform. But by 22nd February 2018, Priya clocked up her follower count to a jaw-dropping 4.6M, easily unseating Mark.
With her popularity growing each day, she looks set to reach 5M. The Oru Adaar Love actress has already become the third celebrity to garner over 600,000 followers in just one day. Kylie Jenner and footballer Cristiano Ronaldo are the only other two stars to accomplish this.
Perhaps in time, she will reach similar figures to Bollywood stars. Can you imagine if she surpassed the likes of Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone or Alia Bhatt?
These actresses respectively have 21.6M, 21.9M and 20.4M people following them at the moment. It may take some time for Priya to reach those numbers. But considering her overnight fame happened in early February, this could one day happen.
She has already dethroned one Bollywood starlet – Sunny Leone. On Google searches, she became the highest searched celebrity, a spot steadily held by the ‘Trippy Trippy’ performer.
Even on Instagram, Priya has well overtaken Sunny, who has just 56.5K users following her.
As she hits new records on social media, just what is the secret to the winking girl’s success? Marketing expert Sushant Yattam believes internet memes have played a huge role. He told Khaleej Times:
“The main reason behind Priya Varrier becoming viral over social media is Indian internet stars like AIB, Zakir Khan picking up the content and spinning memes around it.”
He also compared her achievements to Tamil actor Dhanush, who performed a song for Kolaveri Di (2012). He explained: “You see Dhanush has nicely leveraged his internet fame and got in-roads into Bollywood.
“Priya has to now focus on engaging with her new audience.”
It seems the actress has taken this advice on board – on 23rd February, she shared a clip revealing the next song from Oru Adaar Love. A romantic melody, it will also feature her co-star Roshan Abdul Rahoof.
While Priya didn’t reveal when the track’s music video would release, we’re sure everyone can’t wait to hear it. And see if the starlet will break the internet once again.
Fans also await the release of Oru Adaar Love, which is scheduled for 1st March 2018. With just over a week to go, we wonder what new heights it will give the 18-year-old. Particularly she could one day break into the Bollywood scene.
