Legendary Bollywood Actress Sridevi passes away at 55

her infamous stint in the 1983 film Himmatwala got her into the spotlight

The news is hard to believe but true. Legendary and super popular Bollywood actress, Sridevi has passed away after a major cardiac arrest in Dubai at the age of 54.

She was attending a family wedding in the country with her husband Boney Kapoor and her youngest daughter Khushi.

As the news unfolds, people are flowing to Sridevi’s residence in Mumbai. Where her eldest daughter Janhvi is at home. She could not go to Dubai due to a very busy filming schedule.

The news has shocked family, relative and the Bollywood fraternity but has been confirmed on social media and major outlets.

Sadly, it is the loss of a huge star who stole our hearts on the silver screen.

Regarded as the first female superstar of Bollywood, Sridevi worked across Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada films.

Born on August 13, 1963, in Sivakasi, India, Sridevi started her career as a child artist, she subsequently established herself as one of the most popular leading actresses in Bollywood.

In Hindi films, her infamous stint in the 1983 film Himmatwala got her into the spotlight. After this, she was a part of several commercially successful films such as Khuda Gawah, Lamhe, Chaalbaaz, Mr India and many more.

Her moving performance in Sadma alongside Kamal Hassan is still considered to be incomparable to any of her other works in Bollywood. But there are so many to choose from this is just one example of the tremendous contribution to Indian cinema by this superb star.

She immortalised dance numbers such as ‘Mere Haathon Mein Nau Nau Chudiyaan‘ and ‘Hawaa Hawaai‘.

Her dance in the 1986 film Nagina is still remembered by most.

Being one of the most sought-after actresses of her time, she was also known to be legendary director Yash Chopra’s favourite.

There are reports that she secretly married Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty in 1985. A marriage that is said to have lasted three years.

However, Sridevi formally married film producer Boney Kapoor in 1996 and the actress took a break from films. She had two daughters, Jhanvi & Khushi Kapoor.

She made her comeback 15 years later with a brilliant performance in 2012 with English Vinglish and reminded everyone, there was much more work to be seen from this hugely talented actress.

Sridevi was last seen in Mom which released in 2017 and won her critical acclaim for her performance.

Sadly, Sridevi will not witness the onset of her elder daughter Jhanvi Kapoor’s career in Bollywood whose debut film Dhadak is slated to be released later in 2018.

We feel for the loss of such a huge star who will be sadly missed. Our condolences go out to the Kapoor family and especially her daughters, who will no doubt miss their mother who was very close to them and supporting their careers.
